Astros go down in 10 innings 1-0, road woes continue

Posted on April 23, 2005 by mihoba in Game Recaps

Mark Mulder pitched a 10-inning complete game shutout over the punchless Astros Saturday afternoon in front of the BFiB, that red shirted crowd in St Looie.

The Astros wasted another outstanding outing by  Roger Clemens , who pitched  shutout ball  for 7 innings, allowing four hits and four walks with six punchouts, lowering his ERA to a miniscule 0.32, and pushing his scoreless streak to 23 innings. He remains tied with Steve Carlton for ninth on the career list with 329 wins. The Astros have not scored a run for The Rocket in 22 innings. They failed to even put a runner on third base in this one.

Chad Qualls relieved and shut down the Jakes in innings 8 and 9 but ran into trouble in the 10th, allowing an leadoff infield single to Reggie Sanders before retiring David Eckstein on a grounder that sent Sanders into scoring position with one out. Enter  Brad Lidge , who promply gave up the game winning hit to Larry Walker and send the Astros to another 1 run defeat.

The Astros will try to salvage a win tomorrow. Game time is 1:15 ,  Brandon Backe vs. Matt Morris.
