They do not have a deep staff, but the ones who pitch are good. I hope the bats reappear.

Kind of amazing the Astros are in the WS with so many LOBsters.

Anybody have insight on the strength of Washington's pen?

Hinch definitively said Alvarez would DH and bay 7th (don't know who thought otherwise,  but the question was asked).

He was 6 for 19 vs TB.  I hope AJ is using all his horse whispering talent to coax some line drives out of the big guy.

For an organization that's leading edge in almost every area, their response to this is the most ham fisted disappointment imaginable.

Sorry if this cabrera’d, but have the rosters been announced?  Is Pressly in?  Also curious if Straw might make it.

Rosters not announced yet.

McGattis will collaborate on the first pitch for Game 1.

At one point the broadcast mentioned Alvarez having mechanical rather than mental trouble.

They mentioned AJs that advice to Springer in 2017 included something about understanding that getting a walk can get things moving in the right direction.   Even in ABs he's battled Alvarez has ended up getting fooled out of the zone.

People should not conflate Verducci's contribution to TV broadcasts (shoehorned in by hamfisted producers) with his skil as a baseball writer.   He is great at his real job.

Time (for me at least) to turn the page and get focused on the task at hand.

Any thoughts on roster adjustments with 2 or 3 games in the NL park?   If Pressly can't go who replaces him?

I didn't see this in the comments earlier.  In case you missed it, this is Jomboy actually watching the end of the game in chat:

Great find.

He may be a Yankee fan,  but he is an exceptional baseball fan.

Cool factoid.

Not as cool (for the player involved):
Jonathan Villar played on the 111 loss 2013 Astros and the 108 loss 2019 Orioles.

Absolutely correct. That is why I did not want Springer to steal.

AJ said he could see Altuve ripping a slider into the vacated corner,  then it would be up to Springer to get on his horse and score from first.

Did not see if anyone asked him directly about keeping George at first but that seems clear that's why they did.

This is the elephant in the room.  Catchers tip pitches far more often than pitchers do.

Saw something on this on MLB network a year or two ago.

Can't remember the catcher,  but they had several clips and showed how for sliders he would widen to prepare to cover ground,  for other pitches his butt was up in the air, etc.

I couldn't believe how obvious it was.  Much less subtle than how high a pitcher's glove is or how many times he wiggles the ball.

I did. That was my bet.

Peacock really stepped up.

He didn't go home after getting back from NY.  Slept in the nap room in the stadium.

First pitcher in something like 100 years to end one postseason game and start the next.

Yes it would have been great to get 2 IP/0 R, but no complaints on his performance.

(also had his father on his mind: dad had bypsss surgery earlier in the week)

Underrated defensive performance this post season.  Yuli.  He has been fantastic.

Agree.  Scoops,  the swipe tag on Bregman's throw,  the diving stop for the 3-1 putout.

Yuli Gurriel is a fine all around baseball player.

Don’t forget Altuve’s amazing feed to Correa to start the dp.

What a tough ball to field cleanly for the chance to turn it.

Great feed to Correa. Knew he just needed to load the cannon.   And clear the decks.

After Saucer, dinner, and lots of highlights and conversation, Mark and I got to bed at our hotel at 3AM. His very frequent comments were “Did that just happen?” and “I cannot believe what I just saw.”

I woke up at 6 AM and still couldn't believe it really happened.

The Twitterverse is still abuzz.

I am so grateful that this franchise values defensive prowess in addition to all the other analytic-era metrics.
