Disappointing to me.
He's out of options. He may simply be an insurance policy at backup for Stubbs (i.e. if/when Stubbs is called up he goes bye bye).So Chirinos (or Machete) may still be in the cards at starter. But I guess we won't get both.
Your last sentence is what disappoints me. We had a great catching tandem with those two. I cannot imagine Stubbs is a solution.

Why would the Astros want to have three catchers on the roster? It seems like a horrible waste of the spot. Find the best hitter or the most versatile fielder, and put that guy on the roster.
