Exhibition Recaps & Lex Roster Released

Posted on April 8, 2009 by Duman in From the Bus Stop

The Express got the better of the Hooks last night 7-0 in the final exhibition of the season.  Hooks manager Luis Pujols said:

We couldn’t get anything going tonight.’ It was just one of those nights. When you play baseball and win two out of three games, I’ll take that anytime

Josh Muecke pitched 5 scoreless innings for the Express and John Gall added a 2 run homer.  Brad James struggled in his outing giving up the Gall homer plus another run.

Lancaster showed that they are much better than a local community college team.  They defeated the Antelope Valley CC team 15-1 in exhibition play last night.  Shane Wolf will be the opening day starter for the JetHawks on Thursday.

Lexington manager Tom Lawless is excited about his roster for the 2009 season.

They’re young kids. You’ve got to be patient with them. But they should attack the strike zone.  And, if we catch the baseball, we’ll be in a lot of ball games….We’ve got some speed on the bases.  We’ve got some speed in the outfield. We’ve got good catching.  So we’re pretty solid.

Lexington pitching coach Charlie Taylor will be on medical leave at the first of the season for treatment of Bladder Cancer.  Travis Driskill, who was slated to be the Greeneville pitching coach in June, will be the interim pitching coach till Taylor rejoins the team.   Driskill will be familiar with much of the pitching staff, as he coached 8 of the 12 pitchers in Greeneville last season.

DeLome Glad To Be Close To Home, Dell Diamond #2

Posted on April 6, 2009 by Duman in From the Bus Stop

Colin Delome is glad to be playing on the Texas coast again.  The Lamar product was interviewed by the Beaumont Enterprise.

“It’s close to the coast, and the wind is always blowing in,” the 23-year-old DeLome said by phone last week. “That helps you to not think about hitting home runs. You’ll stay in your swing and make solid contact. That’s what (Lamar coach Jim) Gilligan preached at Lamar.Read More

Just How Close Are Johnson & Norris?

Posted on April 4, 2009 by Duman in From the Bus Stop

Ed Wade says Chris Johnson & Bud Norris are very close to joining the big club.

On Johnson:

“Johnson is the closest-to-the-big-leagues position player prospect we have,” general manager Ed Wade said. “We like (Edwin) Maysonet and (Tommy) Manzella, (Brian) Bogusevic and a couple of other guys. But really, the guy that has the greatest chance of having an impact on our club is Johnson.”

On Norris:

“Bud did a real nice job,” Wade said. “I told him it wasn’t easy for us (to send him to Round Rock).

“He put his best foot forward here in camp and did exactly what we asked him to do. In other circumstances, he’d be breaking camp with the big club.”
