This time, Perry rates the MLB GMs for us.  Aren't we lucky!

Schuerholz tops list of general managers

Count Purpla's rating is #18 with a bullet.  Here is his write-up:

Quote:

18. Tim Purpura, Astros
On the job since November 2004
Playoff appearances: 1

The 'Stros have won a pennant under Purpura, but Gerry Hunsicker's fingerprints were all over that team. He's done little to distinguish himself, but he's kept Houston in the competitive fray. Purpura, like Towers, Epstein and Cashman, is skilled at blending statistical and traditional methods of evaluating talent. Long-term, he should become one of the game's best.

I have a hard time giving GMs that are checkbook GMs as much credit as Perry does.  I know Theo Epstein is beloved by many (why?  I don't know for sure), but having the payroll flexibility he has makes for a good GM.  His mistakes are covered up quite nicely when you have unlimited payroll.  Same with Cashman, Minaya and others.

If I were voting for such a list, I'd put Terry Ryan at the very top (no disrespect for Schueholtz and others at the top).  Billy Beane?  Yeah, go ahead and put him #2, but I think Ryan does a better job than Beane and goes relatively unoticed.  I guess he's not the self-promoter that Beane is, huh?  I'd also put Mark Shapiro higher as well (perhaps not at the very top or top five, but top ten for sure).  Purpura still has to show his true worth I guess for most people.  Hunsicker left a huge shadow as it were.  But I admire Tim Purpura's ability, so time will tell (as Perry points out) where he'll fall in terms of legacy as a GM.

Perry is such a chode.  I'm trying to figure out what moves the ROyals GM has done to warrant being #19 on his list, and the only thing that comes to mind is $55m for Gil Meche.

And this is priceless..."Dayn Perry is a frequent contributor to FOXSports.com and author of the new book, "Winners: How Good Baseball Teams Become Great Ones".
You see pal, that's who I am, and you're nothing. Nice guy, I don't give a shit. Good father, fuck you. Go home and play with your kids. You wanna work here, close. You think this is abuse? You think this is abuse, you cocksucker? You can't take this, how can you take the abuse you get on a sit?

I actually like reading Perry's stuff.  He may be out there sometimes, but he's not afraid to speak his mind.  Of the new brand of baseball commentators, Perry is my favorite... but don't mistake that as a compliment per se.  It just means he sucks less than the others.  Now if we're talking Will Carroll for instance, then we're really talking about a guy who I just don't get.

His statements are usually so out there, I can't believe he gets any kind of run from anyone who follows baseball.  Carroll really sucks!

Theo  was beloved because he was the GM when they won the WS in 04.  I think the shine is starting to wear off a little bit, especially after last year's season and the loss of Damon to the NYY.
Let me explain something to you. Um, I am not "Mr. Lebowski". You're Mr. Lebowski. I'm the Dude. So that's what you call me. You know, that or, uh, His Dudeness, or uh, Duder, or El Duderino if you're not into the whole brevity thing.

Perry pissed me off in one of his anti-JImy Williams columns back in early 2004, that I wrote to him.  He basically said Jimy was a dumbass cause he wasn't using his closer (Dotel) properly, instead he was giving more of the "high leverage" innings to his setup man, some shitbag named Lidge.  I asked how williams compared to the other NL and AL managers, and why exactly giving the ball to Lidge circa 2004 was a bad idea.

Shockingly he never replied.  Bascially, Dayn Perry is too smart by half.  He has grandiose ideas, presents them as facts, and never takes the next step to see if (a) his facts are true, and (b) what can be extrapolated from those facts.

I completely agree.  I feel like I could put together a relatively competitive team if i had all that money to spend.. its more like picking an All-Star team than evaluating and acquiring talent like most GMs have to do.  I know I'm dreaming.. but still.
Today seems like a good day to burn a bridge or two

For those not in the know, "chode" means "fucker" in Hindi.

I thought "chode" was the area between the asshole and the dick.

I have heard seveal definitions of chode.

I've heard it means essentially the same thing as "turd".

I've heard it means the same thing as "cock".

But my personal favorite is that it means the same thing as "a cock that is wider than it is long".  Don't know why but that cracks me up.

Anyway, Perry is a chode (feel free to use any of thise definitions).

Glad I know at least one word in HIndi.

I agree with your assessment of the list as well as your general assessment of Dayne Perry. I wholeheartedly agree with his assessment of the bottom five. Each of those guys must have wicked videos/pics of their respective owners.

So "chode" is apparently a pretty versatile word... it seems a shame that it's relegated to describing non-versatile shitbags like Pinwheel, JdJO, and this Perry fellow.

I've always heard of it referred to as the fleshy island between said asshole and dick. Also known as the perineum.
