Jennings
« on: December 20, 2006, 04:56:17 pm »
I just watched the Jennings  press conference from today. He seems like a good guy. Apparantly he roomed with Everett during summer ball once, knew Berkman from playing against him in college. He grew up in Dallas idolizing The Old Man.

Jennings described himself as a "laid-back, hard worker, competitve, but nothing flashy." Purpura described his pitching approach consistent with the organization's overall philosophy: competitive, good mound presence, pounding the ball low, not giving in, staying with a plan, etc...

They haven't talked about an extension, yet, of course.

Anybody else excited?

His self described blue collar mentality will fit in nicely.

Roy-Jason 1-2 punch, pretty solid.

Yea, actually I am excited to have him. I think he'll be as good or better than AP would have been this season.

Did he mention anything about owning a ranch?  Is he having an affair?  Did he say anything about the Astros "kept pushing and pushing" while the Rockies "didn't do much?"  These are things we need to know.

Hadn't seen this mentioned yet...I heard him on XM with Dibble/Kennedy right after his signing.  He really had a genuine enthusiasm/desire in his voice that makes you think he will succeed in Houston.  Then again, I guess millions could do that too.  He revealed after a prompting from Dibble that his nickname is 'Diesel', acquired in college from his teammates (Kip Wells in particular I think.)

Was he wearing underwear?

Shades of the days of Whitey Miller pushing Sparky Oswalt and vice versa.  The outcome of their friendly competition made both very good pitchers.  Hopefylly Diesel can now push Sparky and vice versa.  Could make for a very powerful one-two combo similar to 2002!

And this time no freaky groin or pinch nerve in the neck to speak of either.  *Knock on wood*! (sorry BBGs!  Mea culpa!)

News that is sufficiently bad somehow carries its own guarantee of truth.  Only good reports need confirmation.

Jennings is 0-3 with a 10.47 ERA in three career starts at Minute Maid Park.

That is so 12/12.
