Just a pet peeve of mine, but could you change the title of your post to something more informative than "And now this,"

something more like "Proof of late-stage syphilis in the newsroom of the country's STD capital."

Thanks for your patronage.

I'm going to assume that the Astros had nothing to do with this deal, and the reason I will do that is that if Purpura is cool with trading Luke Scott for one reliever, but would rather have JASON LANE than, say, anyone.....I am officially on the I Don't Like Purpura bandwagon.

The link off that story said he was a starter, anchor of the staff, opening day pitcher last year for Orioles and 200+ innings. 15 wins. And young. Sounded like a decent deal to me.

Picture Jeriome Roberston with slightly better stuff.  He was 15-12 with about a 5 ERA.  And he was the "anchor" b/c Erik Bedard was hurt most of the year.
I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing AstroTurf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, torture of Bud Selig.

He's 31.  He's got 5 full seasons under his belt.  2 of those seasons he had an ERA of about 3.50.  The other 3 seasons his ERA was 4.90, 5.82, and last season 5.90.  He's thrown 200+ innings only once in those 5 years.  He is the anchor of a suspect staff and opening day starter by default.  He's too inconsistent for a spot high in the Astros rotation.
Goin' for a bus ride.

That there is a brainfart.

I'm not sure why I equated "9-18, 5.91 last year" with "reliever."

Carry on.

But not with that trade.  This guy blows.

about a 5 ERA.

Change that 5 to a 6 and you're in business.

That link off the page doesn't include his 2006 stats. So, I was misled and lazy for not looking it up. I agree, too inconsistent.
