Unnecessary

Here's a very real question: why do we keep being subjected to the biggest, most dramatic, most outrageous, most MEANINGLESS homerun in the history of the game?

Yes, it was a big blast.  Yes, it was surprising.  Yes, all it did was make us play an extra game before winning the fucking pennant.

Stop.  Enough.

It was just a blown save.  No more, no less.  It didn't change the series and it didn't RUIN BRAD LIDGE.  Aaaaaaargh.

I'm sorry.  It just occurred to me they've been making us watch the Fisk HR for 30 years.

Nevermind.

Though I can't help but wonder what might have been if Roy O started Game 1 of the WS, instead of Game 6 of the NLCS.

Just like I can't stop wondering what might have happened if Roy's name was actually "Ray." Man, it's like that old Marvel comic "What If...?". One tiny insubstantial thing is different, and, like, the whole damn universe goes wacky.

bullshit. he could not hold a 4 run lead in the WS game he pitched.
Often wrong, but never in doubt.

It probably wouldn't have turned out much different than the game he did pitch in the WS.  If the Astros would have won a few games in the WS and it gone seven games, then you might could wonde what if.  But when you get your ass handed to you no matter who is pitching, there simply isn't much of an argument there.
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

Just like Bill Buckner's infamous boot and the more recent hilarity involving Steve Bartman, there was another game to play after that one.

The difference is that those two teams lost the next game, so those plays take on more import than perhaps they should.  The Astros won the next game, and the series, with one game left unplayed - making that homer totally meaningless outside of Game #5's box score.  That fact will never sink in to ESPN/Fox, but they'll keep running the clip just the same.

More to the point, they should show Qualls doing a number on Pooholes in the 8th inning of Game #6.  He struck out weakly (IIRC), and the Jakes were eliminated shortly thereafter.  A much more pivotal play.
Courage is what it takes to stand up and speak; courage is also what it takes to sit down and listen.

There are plenty of "What Ifs" like what if FOX hadn't forced game 1 and 2 of the WS to be played in rainout conditions?

But the Astros had ample opportunity to win the games, and they didn't get it done.  Looking back won't do anything but turn you into a pillar of salt.

Not making an argument. Stros lost fair and square, and an extra game from Oswalt almost certainly wouldn't have changed that. And even if it would have, the Stros lost the Cards game fair and square anyways. No excuses being made.
