They were employed and being paid by a company for which they were doing no work...

Coincidentally, or not, it was the same Lexus dealership that was investigated for possibly giving Adrian Peterson a sweetheart deal on a new car...

OU is trying to keep the NCAA at bay with a pre-emptive strike.

Would any aggie be surprised if some of these players were linked to Dallas Carter HS?

Here's the article about the investigation of Peterson's car financing deal...

The Link

The best part is:

"Oklahoma also investigated the employment of football players by the dealership but found no violations."

It's the same dealership that was paying Bomar and Quinn...

Nope not limited to OU or A&M.   UT baseball did the same thing with Trip Couch.

Everyone in the NCAA is dirty to some extent, to act as though some programs are holier than though is the epitome of having your head in the sand.

Not saying that you were implying that, but just people in general who think THEIR team does do such thing.  Or better yet, that their fans are "classier."

Trip Couch? he was not a player.

every program is not dirty, Navin, and there are plenty of schools who work very hard to obey the rules.

Maybe I am just a cynic Jim R, I just dont see how anyone could be totally clean.   Not with all the rules imposed by the NCAA.   IMO, everyone is dirty, some just stink a little worse than others.

BTW, the fact that Trip was a coach, doesnt make the cheating anything less then what it was, cheating.

Man, you sound like a fucking Okie.  Look at the all-time record in the series.  They needed almost 30 more years just to make it EVEN again.

Stuff like 13 ships you get to field a baseball team.   Or all the rules  on recruiting, practice time, limiting what kids can earn in the off season, etc...

I didnt say it "forces" anyone to cheat, but if you are going to compete, then you arent 100% compliant.

Not to worry, my man.  We own them all-time, we're reigning National Champs, and we beat the shiz out of them last year.

The Land Thieves are not our biggest concern anymore.

I have no dog in this fight (although I'm from OK, I have always hated the Sooners), but as an SMU alum let me say that you don't want to wish the death penalty on anyone.

It is what it claims to be. There is no resurrection. Even 20 years later.

Which, last time such conversation arose among college football, is why it was widely speculated that it will never be used again, accept in the most extreme of situations.

One talking head once described the death penalty similar to the atomic bomb.  Once you use it, you realize it's something you should never do again.
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

A lot of wondering here in aggieland after the last booster almost "helped" our team into the death penalty, if the school or state could hold that individual accountable. Due to his actions, the school (state) lost some $20 million in lost TV and bowl revenue.

Could the state AG go after the individual?

Alabama passed a law back in the late 80's - early 90's to be able to go after agents who targeted college players too early.  If you remember Antonio Langham (think Miami reciever getting stripped of the ball from behind in the sugar bowl), he signed with an agent on a cocktail napkin in a New Orleans hotel and the state went after the agent.  I believe the law was ruled unconstitutional on appeal but that was one attempt.

Schools do have proceedures in place to strip the booster of their relationship with the school.  Alabama again did this with Logan Young as a part of their attempt to avoid the death penalty.  As an Auburn fan, we can't get rid of our meddling booster, he is behind half the trustees of the school.
