Kenny Rosenthal still says Oswalt offered to O's

Says Angelos nixed the Oswalt deal.

The Link

Orioles
It took effort to beat out the Red Sox for the top spot, it really did. It also has taken effort for the Orioles to produce eight straight losing seasons at the U.S. Mint at Camden Yards, with No. 9 on the way. But by golly, owner Peter Angelos has done it.

Astros right-hander Roy Oswalt, a perennial Cy Young candidate, wasn't enticing enough for Angelos to trade shortstop Miguel Tejada. Angels right-hander Ervin Santana, one of the game's top young pitchers, wasn't enticing enough, either. Angelos has it all figured out, you see. His team is plenty good already!

The Orioles' front office did its job, soliciting at least two quality offers for Tejada, and exploring potential deals in which Oswalt would have been flipped to the Rangers or Mets for additional players. But then Angelos got into the act, questioning this, questioning that, according to major-league sources.

Why accept Santana and a less established player, Class AAA shortstop Erick Aybar, for an All-Star such as Tejada? Why risk acquiring Oswalt when he could depart as a free agent after next season? Why take Astros shortstop Adam Everett when the Orioles already have a young shortstop, Brandon Fahey?

The answers:

*Because putting Santana in a future rotation with left-handers Erik Bedard and Adam Loewen and right-handers Daniel Cabrera and Hayden Penn might actually have given the Orioles a chance in the powerful A.L. East.

*Because a No. 1 starter is the game's most treasured commodity, and the Orioles could have traded Oswalt for a dizzying array of talent at next year's deadline if they were unable to sign him long-term.

*Because hey, you've got a chance to get ROY OSWALT ? and then turn him into an even bigger bonanza.

He's ripping Angelos for feeding him lies moreso than for what's he's saying.  Kenny Rosenthal got used and he's not very happy about it.  Payback time!

So he makes stuff up because the stuff he wrote/said the day before was made up?  THAT makes sense, huh?

I don't know why they call them "writers," anyway; they're friggin' gossip columnists.
"(512) ybbodeus looks just as creepy in HD as in person."   That is a problem, and we are working on it.

I have to be honest about that... I should've said that *perhaps* Kenny R is doing that.  For all I know, he's still under the delusion that Oswalt was offered by the Astros.  The hell with four solid reports from media outlets to the contrary.

I still love the fact that Angelos get's ripped no matter what.  No where do I see Kenny R questioning the intelligence of the Astros front office... more of sympathy card is played because basically he, like others, feel Houston is backed into a corner to make such a drastic deal.

Everyone but Houston writers though.  They just love to rip Houston front office folks any chance they get.  Or so it seems.

To your last paragraph, perhaps they operate under the illusion that it "sells" papers.

Response to above and Noe- b/c our beat writers are pandering to a baseball IQ deficient populous of losers, as is evidenced by most of what you see on the net (think Clark's here and AD regulars) idiot talk show callers and Chronicle letter writers.

I think less than 10% of the fans of various teams around town actually understand the sport in anything but the most basic kind of way.  We live amongst morons, and b/c of that we have a third rate newsrag.  Or maybe we have a bunch of idiots we live around b/c of the third rate news rag. Chicken and egg I guess.

The thing is, it doesn't have to be that way.  I'm not a very good baseball mind (football's always been my sport of choice) but I realize things that in my mind should be self-evident (our sportswriters are idiots, Angelos is a tool, etc.).  Why don't more people realize that Pinwheel's an asshat?  Maybe my brain just isn't wired the right way or something.

Justice quote at employee appraisal time:  "But boss, look at all these responses to my blog.  Look at all these people responding to my column during my radio interview.  Look at all these people on this website responding to my column.  Man, all these people are reading my column.  I may be a total ass-wipe who makes up shit to stir things up, but people still read it.  Readership is what this business is all about.  Please, I deserve a raise and a contract extension."
In other words, if you don't like the shit he excretes, then don't read it.
