Rumor on cards board...

Astros close to acquiring Carlos Lee for Jason Hirsch?

I have not seen anything on it, so it's probably bogus. Just wondering if anyone has heard anything.

I believe Justice and Ortiz would be the LAST to know what the Astros were up to. Cards forum posters could be the next to last, which is why I DID say it was probably bogus and a RUMOR.

Probably? Never mind, you're unreliable.  Heres the link The Link Nitwits posting crap with no backup on the internet is not a rumor, it's crap. This Rebel clown says that Burke is "day to day".  I've seen no confirmation of that.  And, I was at the game today, it's highly unlikely he's "day to day". (edit) here it is, "day to day" The Link

He'll be "day-to-day" only as long as it takes to process the paperwork and put him on the DL.  Anyone who was actually at the game and saw the whole thing (not just the ESPN clip) will likely agree.  I hope we see Hobbs again and that the third time will be the charm.

The first report on the radio was a subluxation, which I gather is a mild dislocation followed immediately by the shoulder popping back in.  The quoted report--the one Pravata couldn't bother to read before he reached the dark side of bipolar--says the shoulder was dislocated, but also says there's not much to be done without surgery.

However bad it looked, if he's not going for surgery and there's no resulting pain, why would the day-to-day report not be true? If there was no additional damage, it's not something that will heal itself over time, and it's probably not something that will keep him from playing again fairly quickly.

There is a clip of the injury on the MLB site, linked to the article.  I can't make it run on my Apple, so it may not really exist.

I'll tell you from personal experience that, once it pops out, if it is already loose, you're going to have a pretty serious issue with weakness in the joint for at least a few days, and it usually takes about 5-10 before you feel really comfortable doing things that put stress on it... You know, like swinging a bat, raising your arm over your head, etc.

If Burke doesn't go on the DL, he'll be pinch running and late inning defense at best.

Swinging a bat can SERIOUSLY hurt.

I had thought he was hit.  But he jumped up, Labossiere and Garner came out and he started swinging the bat.  They just looked at him, and after about 10 swings escorted him into the dugout and down the tunnel.  Burke was still holding the bat.  It doesn't seem like rest is going to help anything except reduce the swelling.  DL wont do any good. This is likely going to keep happening.  The Link

The trade is actually pretty intriguing from the Astros perspective, although I'm not quite sure why the Brewers would do it.  Seems to me that they have as much a chances as anyone in this division right now, particularly with Pooholes out.  Giving up Lee (a huge fan favorite in Milwaukee) for a prospect would be tantamount to quitting on the season, unless they think that Hirsh can come in right now and help with their starting pitching.  Sheets has started pitching again, but he's a real question mark.

The right tackle on my high school football team seriously dislocated his shoulder his sophomore year, ending his season prematurely.  By the time he was a senior, he dislocated the thing just about every other day.  We'd take turns in the huddle getting the joint back in place before the next play.  I don't know how badly it hurt, and I'm sure it diminished his ability, but I don't think he missed any time after the first dislocation.

I'm not going to pretend to be an expert; I'm just surprised someone is trying to diagnose the situation from his seat.

The problem is, you can get by in football, especially on the line, if you're savvy. Holding doesn't really require a lot of shoulder strength, as long as you've got quick feet.

Swinging a bat, on the othe hand, seriously torques the shoulder. I was lucky and never had serious problems during the baseball season with my shoulder, and the football strength coach understood that my ability to benchpress was seriously hampered.

Speaking from personal experience though, swinging a bat with your shoulder seperated is not an easy thing to do.

Yeah, he'll charge the sun.

On the other hand, if Pujols can turn on the inside comet and drive it to somewhere in the vicinity of the Crab Nebula, he'll stand and watch it (remember, don't look directly at the sun) and then flip his bat and go into his trot.

Well, he seemed ok on *this* day.  Even Garner didn't expect him to play, but maybe they should go ahead and put the paperwork aside for now.

What's your confusion?  That we were getting reports citing Garner and Laboissere that Burke wasn't going to play and that was the information, the only information available, that we relied on?

There is no confusion. Somebody linked to an article saying he was day-to-day. Somebody else said he was only day-to-day only until the DL papers were processed. He was in the line-up last night. Which was a surprise to me, by the way.

In any event, the "unreliable" comment was sarcasm. I'm not really very invested with who's "unreliable" and who's not around here. It's just a bunch of stuff people post.
