Apparently the press conference video is going to be on astros.com, FWIW.

I imagine that Clemens gets guaranteed Major League pay for the length of the contract.
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

Won't he be 44 this year?

Maybe he can sneak in 22 wins (if playoffs are included)...

I think Andyzipp had the definitive word.  But, I'm not going to trust some jackass NY reporter who's filing a story from Detroit on something that is going on in Houston for a team that is in St. Louis.

I just meant that once you state a confirmation, you have something backing up your post. I generally trust that.

That's not what the ESPN story says:   Link

"agreeing first to a minor league contract that pays $322,000 over the five-month minor league season"

Either way, I don't think he'll have to settle for hamburger at HEB instead of the prime cuts.

Why 22?  Does it go beyond his UT days?  Just curious if he chose 22 at UT for a reason or if that's where it began because they assigned that number to him.
News that is sufficiently bad somehow carries its own guarantee of truth.  Only good reports need confirmation.

OK, I stand corrected.  I'm surprised Roger didn't demand full salary from the time he stepped to the podium in the press conference today.

Done so that he doesn't have to be added to the 40-man until called up?
I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing AstroTurf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, torture of Bud Selig.

Actually, I think Paul O'Neill was 21 on the Yanks. Pettitte took 21 when he joined the 'Stros as an homage to his Rocket buddy.

Salary is independent of his place on the roster.

Quite true, but I'm guessing there's some sort of limit on minor-league contracts.

I don't think so.  Plus, I doubt Clemens has signed a minor league contract.  I'm pretty sure it's Major League all the way.  It may call for a split salary (many contracts do), but I can't imagine he signed anything but a guaranteed Major League contract.

I believe he also wore #21 with Toronto (in between Bosox and Yanks).
I'd rather be in The Astrodome.

Read again.  The article clearly states that he signed a minor-league contract first.

Apparantly they had to sign him to a minor league deal because he wanted/needed the minor league tune ups. To send someone to the minors without a minor league contract who has as much service time as Clemens, he would have to clear waivers.
