Andy Pettitte started the game going right after the hitters throwing strikes. The strikes were up and the Rangers hit them. After two consecutive doubles, some bloop singles and a sac fly, they had a 2-0 lead.
In the second inning, Pasadena gained a measure of control but everything he threw up the Rangers got some part of the bat on and everything they touched fell in. It turned out to be a very odd night, as he got outs on only two ground balls; most of his outs came on strikeouts, he had 8. There were 5 walks, but 3 were IBBs. Pasadena's outing lasted 6 innings and gave up 5 runs.
Borkowski added to his legend by working 2 no run innings. Mike Gallo gave up his first run in May on a homer in the 9th to Laird.
The Astros offensive highlight came when Taveras broke up Millwood?s bid for a no hitter. He lead off the bottom of the 1st with a base hit but was promptly erased when Biggio hit into a double play. Jason Lane sat for the 3rd game in a row. Garner is going with Lamb at first, for his offense. But Lamb did make a fine play in the 4th. Bases loaded, bases were always loaded in this game, Lamb took a bouncer to first and fired an arrow at Brad's glove right in front of the plate for the tag to complete the dp.
In the 7th, with the score 5-0, JD may have been shaking the Chip Caray Magic 8 Ball? when he said, ?even though they?re being out hit 14-3, this is still a very winnable game.? Bill Brown tried to imitate Ed Sullivan.
Tomorrow, at 1:05, is the rubber game, Buchholz will try to bounce back vs John Koronka. Brown says Koronka was in the Cubs organization and picked Greg Maddux?s brain. Ew.
