Bonds Break Ruth at MM?
« on: May 02, 2006, 07:26:00 pm »
The Giants come to Minute Maid on May 15-17th and Barry is 2 homers away from Ruth and 3 from Breaking Ruths mark and moving onto sole place of 2nd all time. What odds do you give him hitting it there, also you think that ball will have any financial significance? I was thinking it probably won't. I have season tickets in 2 locations, Crawford and section 105, I normally always sit in 105 but I was thinking of sitting in my Crawford box seats for one of the game but does Bonds really have a snow balls chance in hell of going opposite field with a ball? I always envision him having all his homers going to right field but over the course of this year he has had a couple of his homers go to left.
Make a runnnnnnnn!!!!

Why do you have season tickets in two places?

We had so much money tallied up from the season last year in our season ticket account, if you didn't know- the Astros, last year, let you sell your tickets for double face through Astros.com. But it is sort of like store credit. So we had enough in the bank to nearly buy 4 seats so we went ahead and did that. Astros Account is already up to 1700 this season. Sold a pair of Crawfords for 150 a piece for a Cub game later in the year because this year the Astros allow you to sale them for 5 times face. But basically why we have it in 2 places is, originally we bought season tickets in 2004 and had 2 seats in the Crawford but after 81 games ( probably attending 50 or so of them) it's nice to have a different location) so in 2005 we retained 2 of our Crawford seats in section 103 and then bought 2 up in the Club level (233) It was okay but we didn't really like it up their, It wasn't as loud and obnoxious a crowd as I like! Also it looked into the sun which sucked. So this year we slid over to 100 in Crawford Row 3 which are nice and then Right on the rail of 105. I don't know if you remember when Wandy was in trouble a few nights ago and got JD Drew to fly out to foul territory and Preston Wilson caught it and banged into the wall along the foul line, well that's where my 105's are. But we've only sat in 100 one time this year- their basically as a profit maker, because I'm sure you all know the demand for tickets during the playoff run last year. But all in all, it's basically just to switch it up but since we love 105 so much I doubt there will be much sitting in 100!

I hope he breaks the record in Houston or some place besides San Francisco. The fans in Frisco will cheer for him, I dont think he will enjoy his moment some place else when people are booing him. Then again, nothing seems to bother this dude, not even shame. I just dont want to see him getting a standing ovation all night long on sportscenter. I want to see angry fans in Astros jerseys yelling.

This year most of his home runs have been opposite field. Today, however, he absolutely demolished the ball to straight away center. Overall, however, given his knee condition, nowdays he gets his weight on the ball by going the other way, rather than turning on an inside pitch.

My baseless and useless prediction: He passes Ruth before hitting MMPUS. Frankly, I think the Astros are more likely to give up a homerun of historical significance at the makeup game on Monday.

The Astros let you scalp your tickets on their own website?!

I was at the game when he tied (or broke - can't remember which) McTweet's tally.  That was the walking controversy season, and the crowd were booing the IBBing of Bones even though the Astros were trying to win a pennant and were up by one run.

Eventually the game was broken open by the Jints, and Dierker served up a rookie to Bonds.  He jacked one and the crowd went berzerk for about 5 minutes.  Curtain call, the works.

It was disgusting, and it'll be nothing compared to what the yackwagoners will do when he passes Ruth.

I hope he lobs a jam shot into the front row on the right hand side of the CBs.  That way, everyone will remember his momentous homer as being a 295' soft fly.

Yeah lol, if you intrested in buying tickets for a game I suggest you go there because most peoples season tickets are premium seats, (aisle seats or low #ed rows). but you go to Astros.com and then find ticketing and go to Premium ticket purchases.

& Wilfredo Rodriguez served up that jack...nothing pissing me off more then cheering an opponent. That really chaps my ass.

I saw Kruk on BBTonight last night, and while I normally ignore EVERYTHING he says, he actually looked like he did some research!

Basically he pointed out Bonds can't hit the inside fastball, and NEVER throw one up and away, all his HRs this year are when they leave it up for him.

He seems to have no power from his legs and everything is from his arms.  So pound him inside all day long.  I would die laughing if by the end of the year he is batting .200 and is still searching for a HR to tie Ruth... how fitting would that be?!

A couple of days ago they were spotlighting him on ESPN murdering an inside fastball. Specifically talking about how well he turned on it, etc. Guess his research didn't include watching his own network.

I know he used to murder the inside stuff... You sure they were talking about this season?  Everything I have heard says he can't turn on it anymore which is why he hasn't hit any of his HRs by pulling it down the line.

They were talking about a double he absolutely smoked on the inside, this season.

I love how you and Kruk think you have figured out something that Major League managers/advance scouts haven't, since he's hitting .385 with 2 HR and a 1.529 OPS in the last week.

I suspect if tested that Bonds would take the notion that he can't hit the inside fastball and make the same demonstration that Ted Williams made when they claimed he couldn't do anything with an efus pitch.

I listened to a Brandon Webb interview on Sunday night and he was talking about the scouting reports he has seen on Bonds lately.  They claim he has a hole in his swing on the *outside* part of the plate.  Webb claims the book being developed on Bonds is to throw changeups and/or breaking pitches away to Bonds because he's been compensating for the inside part of the plate and right now he'll not take the breaking pitch to left, instead he'll pull it and roll over it for an easier out.

His knee is not letting him do much with outside pitches it seems.

I was at the game, and the Astros were out of the race by then.  It was something that gave the fans to cheer for during a bad season.  It did get a little out of control with the curtain calls, and I remember Dierker being really pissed.

This happened 10/4/01. At the beginning of the series v. the Giants, the Astros were a game up on the Cardinals  After the final game of the series the Astros had a record of 91-68 and were one game back.  They went to St. Louis for a 3 game season ending series and Shane Reynolds beat the Cardinals on the last day of the season, 9-2.  Their record was 93-69 and they won the Central that season.  The Cardinals declared themselves Co-Champions

I think pravata's corrected your recollection of the Astros' state at the time.  But I don't think many of those cheering were Astros' fans.  They were there to see Bonds yack, and nothing else.

Dierker may have been pissed because he was getting booed in his home ballpark for trying to win a game that was massively important to the home club.  I know I was.  When Bonds hit his dinger, I sat stoically in my seat in silent protest at all the tossers who were making complete twats of themselves.

How naive.  Clearly, it's because Barry is black.

It was the second worst exhibition of attendee ignorance in Houston baseball history.  It pissed off Dierker so bad that his pissitude lingered into the playoffs.  He blew up in a post game news conference and was asked to resign soon after.  The first worst exhibition was the booing of Jimy Williams when the All Star was held in Houston.
