"Clemens leaning towards Red Sox or Yankees" ESPN
« on: April 13, 2006, 07:47:06 pm »
Hehe.  The great Buster Olney has a contact who is "friends" with Clemens and the anonymous friend said Clemens will go where he is most likely to win and he thinks that Boston or New York.  Makes perfect sense to me, I mean when the hell are the Astros ever going to do anything in the playoffs?   ESPN has no shame in stroking Boston and New York at any opportunity.  USC in football season might be the only thing close.

So first we have to trust that Buster Olney is telling the truth that the contact actually told him this. And then we have to trust that the contact, if he really exists, actually heard this from Clemens. And, then, finally, we have to trust that Clemens, if he did tell his "friend" this, isn't just screwing around. Seems like a lot of places for some B.S. to get made up playing the telephone game. But that's what passes for "journalism" in Bristol.

Yeah, I thought The Rocket came back to Houston cause he wanted to play ball near home.

Welcome.

I'm sure that the folks at ESPN can't grasp why anyone wouldn't want to live and play near the two poles of the known universe, i.e., the Bronx and Fenway.

Every ESPN channel devoted to the Duke-UNC basketball game is in the same category.

Imagine what would happen if there was a USC story and a Duke story on the same day as a Red Sox-Yankees game.  I think their satellite would explode.

I think Olney's got a bad source here.  Normally he's one of the better national guys out there.
I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing AstroTurf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, torture of Bud Selig.

I don't know. I'm kind of leaning towards the "Roger's just screwing them around" theory. Isn't that essentially what he did hanging out in the Ranger's owner's suite earlier this season? IMO, he's having a grand ol' time watching these teams and the media fall all over him. I wouldn't be surprised if he knows exactly what he's going to do and has known all along. He's just biding his time by messing with the heads of the mediots and a few front office guys.

ok so let's clear this up by looking at the facts:

Spent part of Spring Training with the Astros getting ready for the WBC... Thus he is going to the Astros

Spent opening day with the Rangers (and some time during the WBC at their Spring Training place)... Thus he is going to the Rangers

He has been a regular for the Lexington team, watching Koby and even throwing some BP to some of the Legends...  Thus he is going to the Astros

He "told" some "friend" who "told" Olney he is going to Boston or NY... Thus he is going to Boston or NY

About the only thing we can tell is EVERYONE thinks he is going to play.  I think it is only the desire to "beat the competition to the punch" that is even making his actions worth reporting until he makes an official announcement.

Speaking of which, he has been amazing to the guys on that Lexington team.

The article in Baseball Weekly this week is pretty telling. (sorry, no online link)

One of "Team Bastard" is quoted saying "There won't be a discount this time". They also intimated that if the Astros had offered arbitration, Clemens would be pitching already this season.

It's so obvious that all of this media manipulation is all about the Benjamins.

Hendricks (whichever one) then whines on about how hard it was to take such a drastic pay cut during Roger's first season with the Astros. Oh, boo hoo hoo. Poor baby.

Clemens seriously needs to make up his mind, since this constant posturing to get more money is ridiculous and unfair to his fans. "Team Bastard" was also quoted as giving Clemens a deadline to sign as of the All Star Break and selling him as a option for teams at the trade deadline instead of a trade.

I think the Astros would be wise to make a low, but fair offer on May first and walk away and pursue other options if Clemens and "Team Bastard" continues to be so greedy. Let some other team throw all their cash away.

there was no arbitration because Team Bastard held them up last year. "fool me once...."

fuck him. i have long since stop caring. if he plays for the Astros, that's great, and i hope he helps. if he does not play, so fucking what. he is not playing now. the team can win with players who want to be there. i am sick of the Drama Queen and his gargantuan ego.

I "heard" from a "source" that Clemens will check his son's MLB pillowcase, whichever team's logo he drools on on June 1st will be the team he pitches for.  However, the sheet set is old and the logos are out of date...he could wind up only pitching for the Brewers on Sundays when they wear alternate throwback uniforms.
How can you ask me a question like that?  Do you ask The Beatles that??

Bingo. It'd be nice too if his media consorts would stop dissecting his stool to try to figure out what he might be thinking.
