Since the season is about to start. figured I'd post some Astros related odds (courtesy of Caesar's Tahoe).

 To win the Central:

Cards      2:5
Cubs       5:1
Astros     9:1
Brewers    14:1
Pirates    30:1
Reds       12:1

 To win the NL:

Cards      5:2
Astros     12:1

they need to post them right on the wall of the club house right next to the article in the chronicle with the tombstones on it
wonder if Barry Bulked up bonds goes down if those odds change?

Over/Under on Bonds' HRs is 34.5. Has to play 80 games or no action.

West Coast bias with the gints, dojers and fathers, if those odds were in Shreveport instead of Tahoe they'd be different imo.  What do some internet sports books have them at?

I know people always said that the 49ers were always bigger favorites then they should be due to proximity.  USC v Texas was the same way.

I really like the Astros at 12-1 to win the NL- not saying they will but those odds should be 6 or 8 to 1 I would think.

TradeSports.com has futures on events.  Based on bids and offers for contracts, they have the Cards as the front runner for the NL pennant.  What I don't get is that they have the Cubs ahead of the 2005 NL Pennant winner, your Houston Astros!  

Anyway, this site is very interesting to watch as it does generally predict things..

So, here's the current info on the NL Pennant:

This is on a 100 point scale.  Generally 0 means 0 percent chance of the event happening and 100 means 100 percent chance of winning.   Last trade is usually the thing converted to percentage.

Are there really that many people out there that think that the Cubs are going to do anything?  That's surprising to me.  I can understand the action on STL, NYM, and ATL, and even on LAD, but the Cubs?  I guess those folks just aren't paying attention.

Is there some derivative market somewhere that would allow one to prey on CubFan ignorance/delusion?  Something like over/under on the difference in Cub wins vs. Astro wins might be profitable (or even just Cub wins vs Astro wins).

Some would argue that sportbooks in general are playing on the ignorance and delusion of all of their patrons. The odds are not designed to be a true indicator of the result, but are designed to extract the most money out of the ignorant and delusional.

Actually, that's what TradeSports is all about.  If you think that the chances of the Cubs winning it all are low, you short the contract.  There's real money behind these contracts and the Bid/Offers I listed were in dollars.

What I'd really like is to put money on the Brewers finishing ahead of the Cubs.  They do have contracts on just the NL Central so you can probably do that sort of thing there..

From everything I'm reading about the Brewers and Cubs, that's a smart bet.  The Brewers are likely to be better than the Cubs and there are enough suckers on the other side of that bet to influence the odds in your favor.  Your only risk is if Wood and Prior do what they have yet to do over an extended period of time, play.

FWIW at the Flamingo sports book last weekend, the Devil Rays were 200-1 to win the World Series. Now talk about a payout!

I know next to nothing about sports betting, but I think casinos are legal in Illinois, aren't they?  I remember hearing an ad while listening to a Cubs game on XM that said something to the effect of "biggest payout in the Chicago area-" of course that could be referring to bribing elected officials, I'm not sure-

There are casinos in Illinois, in the Joliet area for sure. However, as far as I know, Nevada is the only state that allows a sports book in addition to a racing book.

Illinois has riverboat casino gambling on any body of water except Lake Michigan.  Indiana, however, does allow casinos on Lake Michigan, so you can pretty much bet right there on the Chicago shoreline.
