At what point do people stop coming to this board to just read and post about the Astros (or baseball in general) and start coming here to post all sorts of random thoughts?

I've always wondered that about sports blogs. I don't mean it as an insult - I'm just curious. Why would anyone on this board come to OWA to hear anyone else's opinion of a non-baseball movie? Isn't baseball the sole reason for this blog? People might as well start posting restaurant criticisms or economic theories.

I think it happens when you spend enough time here that you feel like you know people and they are your friends.  When that happens then you post random other shit that you would tell your buddy.

Nothing inherently wrong with that imo, but this board is a little different then say, hornfans or texags, where they have grown into having forums for just about everything when they started as primarily sports talk.


I got dragged to Failure to Launch last night.  It depressed me b/c it showed how women are conniving and want to ruin your life in order to "improve" it from their perspective.  

The movie ended too soon with her and him on a boat- follow the arc a little longer and she is going to tell him she hates the water and he needs to sell his boat.

Not bitter or anything today.

I found the movie hokey yet somewhat entertaining.  It had its moments, certainly.  At other times it was less than spectacular--the 5 minute alliteration section with V-words, and the slow-motion sequence complete with "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!".  And that Burger King reference is spot on.  All-in-all, it's worth seeing, less for its political commentary than for its mild entertainment value.

Agreed. I think the review I posted on my movie blog said something like, "Too outlandish to take seriously as commentary on current events, but V's Orwellian dystopia works well as fiction."

It seems like a lot of people are looking at it as some sort of pointed criticism specifically of the Bush Administration. And if that's what it is's supposed to be than it's comical, and not in a flattering way. But I saw it more as a popcorn movie with a dystopic bent.

FWIW, (very little I know), I think Fat Tire is a good beer.  It's far from my favorite of the New Belguim variety, but it's up there.

My favorite beer of all time.  Likely the thought/feeling is cemented by the fact that I can't get it often and it's introduction to my palatte coincided with some of the greatest fun times I've ever had.  That's a whole 'nuther story though.

Lots of other beers are very appealing for their hops and barley attributes, though.

I don't disagree that the activity surrounding a particular beer drinking incident can greatly affect one's affection for it.  Sort of a beer provenance, if you will.  The "best" single beer I ever had was a draft Lone Star.  But I was really, really thirsty at the time.
