Espn has the final after five innings.  Did they really call a mercy rule, or is there another reason?

Yes, there's really a mercy rule.  However, both teams will get orange slices and Capri Sun after the game.

Clearly.  You know, for all the indifference with which the curmudgeons around here greeted the WBC, this tournament is a lot of fun.  On Sunday USA takes on Japan, who have long contending the name "World Series" is a misnomer.  Should be interesting.

Personally, I've loved the WBC. It's fun to watch semi-real games when the only other option is completely unreal games.

The atmosphere at the Venezuela-DR game was awesome. I'm looking forward to the next round. My hunch is that the Japanese and Koreans will pose more problems than we think. It should be fun, despite the fact that the sytem is geared for the US to avoid the tough Caribbean teams until the finals.

I guess the Americans get to go to Chuck E. Cheese.  The South Africans have to content themselves with Pizza Hut and whatever 20 year old arcade game they have in the entrance.
