Kirby Puckett Succumbs to Stroke (RIP)

Kirby Puckett has passed away as a result of severe damage from a massive stroke.  It's a shame--he was a great ambassador for the game.

Edited to add: the obituary linked is not exactly kind.  And it seems to have gotten his age wrong.  A great ballplayer whose career was cut short and whose life was not happy at the end.  May he find peace on the other side.

RIP for sure.  If he was not going to win the battle it is merciful that he passed quickly.

The "obit" was harsh, but that is news.  It is also the price paid for being a public figure.

Bummer.

Sounds like he had a subarachnoid hemorrage from a ruptured aneurysm. Hideous, but mercifully swift.

The MLB.com obit left out the bad stuff.

But is a person's obit the place to put things like this?  I thought obituaries were ways to celebrate a person's life and accomplishments, not a time to point out a person's shortcomings.

I agree, but the remarks were contained in a news story and not a true obituary.  To me it seems harsh to be reminded of unflattering details of his life after he passed, but that is the price paid for being a public figure.

True, I perhaps shouldn't have labeled the item an obituary.  And it seems the article did get his age right--45.  Earlier reports kept saying he was 44.
