Meaningless but still interesting info about the Dodgers
« on: January 04, 2006, 11:59:03 am »
I was looking at ESPN.com's  projected starters for 2006, and I noticed that the Dodgers have had even more turnover recently than I thought. They list 8 position players, 5 starting pitchers, and 1 closer. None of the LA position players were even with the club (majors or minors) as recently as 2004. Only 3 SP (Penny, Perez, and Jackson) and closer (Gagne) were with the team in 2004, and Penny and Jackson combined to start only 8 games for them. Odalis Perez has been with the team the longest of the players listed with only 4 seasons with LA.

Add that to the turnover in management recently (yes, I realize that's related), and you have almost an entirely different ballclub from only 18 months ago. As a fan of the Astros, who highly value loyalty, that was very surprising to see on another team.
phew. for a minute there, I lost myself

Oops. Actually, I forgot that Gagne's been with the team longer than Perez (7 seasons). Still, my point still stands: lots of turnover.

Looks like the days of the Dodger players as an icon are over.
