I'm really liking the idea of the Astros picking up either Garciaparra or RWhite via FAgency.

Is there any chance that the club might take a shot on Sidney Ponson as well?  I know he's had character issues, but he seems like another player that the Astros could sign to a 1-year, incentive laden deal with not a whole lot of risk....all the while improving the team (by how much we won't know till they play'm) without giving up our pitching in a trade?

Forget logic. Do you really think Drayton would go for a guy like him with all his baggage? I agree with you though, I am all for picking up guys who need to bounce back or are about to reach free agency. They seem to have good seasons when they need to prove their worth and cash in, atleast most of the time.

I see your point, but I am reminded that C4 was supposedly a "clubhouse cancer" and had productive years in Houston without incident.

With the right contract, it would be worth a try.

Uncle Drayton would probably never allow it.

As far as C-4 goes, I do remember Dierker saying that C-4 was one of the few if not the only man that really scared him.

Ponson is HUGELY overrated. I wouldn't sign him to a $2 contract. Any of the guys already under contract would be better than him.

Aside from the fact he is a fat tub of goo and tends to wear out over the season...

And is IN JAIL.  I can just see that conversation, "Mr Mclane, I think we should consider Sydney Ponson."  "OK Tim, never heard of him, but lets go visit him and size him up."

Fair enough, I just like the idea of the Astros filling their team needs through FAgency.  I'd really like to see us come out of this offseason with our pitching staff intact.  In regards to Ponson...I knew that was a longshot but thought I'd throw it out there.
