Yeah, he is injury prone, but I think I heard a rumor that he'd platoon with Luke Scott if we chose the route of signing him.

It makes sense... he's not going to demand a starting position.  He's proven offensively.  Defensively, he's proven but not in a good way.  However, given Garner's history of late inning defensive switches, I can't imagine his defense posing a significant problem.  Between White (when he isn't starting), Lamb, and Palmeiro you have an outstanding bench of PHs in many different situations.  Sounds like a good idea.

What happens to Burke if this goes down?  Does he share the utility role with Bruntlett?  I really hope they don't consider running Burke out to CF to make Willy available in a trade.for pitching.

It also makes sense given MMP. White's biggest weakness is his lack of arm strength in left, but with left field as short as it is here, that's not nearly as much of an issue.

Tell that to the team when Biggio was in LF.  Don't get me wrong, I'm not bashing Biggio but I believe there is a well known play in which Senor Pujols went 1st to 3rd on a ball hit to Biggio in LF.

I'm not saying it's no issue at all, but overall it's less of one than it is in other parks. I don't think Burke would've gotten nearly as many starts in left if they played 81 games at RFK, for example.

I think this is a solid move if it goes down.  You can either give the job to White outright, or he can platoon with Lamb and Scott if necessary.   Plus, I don't think he breaks the bank either because of his injury past.

I'm with Major Tom in re: to Chris Burke....where does he fit in?

It seems another deal is brewing to get another starting pitcher w/Tavares and/or Burke as trade bait.

Chris Burke never really fit in here anyway.  He is blocked by biggio at 2B and he would have been in seattle last july if moyer hadn't vetoed that deal.  I don't know that they will be able to trade him, with the value teams are placing on pitching right now.

ho hum! Unless they can get him for under a million.

Might as well save the money and go with Luke Scott.

Why should they do that?  White may be injury prone, but he can hit.   He's probably in the mike lamb salary range considering he is coming off of a 2 year 6 mil total contract with Detroit and his season last year was cut short again by injury.  Plus if the club wants him it's their money.

At the very least you have another RHB with power off the bench, and a platoon option with Lamb or Scott.  If he plays really well, he earns the starting job.

I like adding White to replace Vizcaino.  Actually I think Bruntlett get's the Viz role and White would be some added muscle off the bench. Playing every day has proven to wear him down, but late in the season he would be a plus as a veteran presence to spell Scott.

Rondell White doesn't platoon with Luke Scott.  If he can play (he's hurt for significant time almost every season) he's in the lineup.  Scott is the 5th OF/Houston-RR shuttle.

The interesting thing will be if Bags can play.  Then there's a 4-way shuffle with Berkman playing OF/1b every day and Lane, White, and Bags taking days off with matchups, etc.

Burke is a utility guy, with occasional starts in CF.

That makes sense for now. But to state the obvious, Biggio is getting older, not younger.

If they can't trade Burke, a potentially valuable bench player and future second baseman, for real value to win this year, then why would they trade him at all?
