New college baseball video game
« on: December 05, 2005, 01:13:07 pm »
EA Sports, maker of MVP Baseball, lost their MLB license for the upcoming game in the baseball series, and has decided to produce a college baseball game.  Here are some screenshots of the college stadiums... they have quite a few Texas schools:

The Screens
"Ground ball right side, they're not gonna be able to turn two OR ARE THEY, THROW, IS IN TIME!!! WHAT AN UNBELIEVABLE TURN BY BRUNTLETT AND EVERETT, AND THEY CUT DOWN MABRY TO END THE GAME, AND THE ASTROS LEAD THIS NATIONAL LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES THREE GAMES TO ONE!!!!!"

I love MVP Baseball 2005.  My Astros team just beat the Red Sox 4-3 in the World Series.  Brandon Backe pitches a 3-hit shutout in game 7 and earns series MVP...and I just acquired Rocco Baldelli on the cheap for next season.  If only Purp's job was that easy...

It keeps me going during the off-season...haven't played ESPN Baseball much but I really don't like the trend of going exclusive.  The NFL did it first, and of course MLB had to copy.  Less games means I have to go outside, and you know that ain't good.

I'm also a huge fan of MVP 2005.  The 'Stros just won their third World Series in a row.  The latest one was also over the BoSox, also 4-3.  Of course, I kind of cheat because I put myself in the game, and I'm the best there ever was.  I also picked up Santana on the FA market.

That's a shame that EA lost the MLB license.  I liked MVP '04, but switched to the ESPN game for '05, mainly because it was $10 cheaper.  I hope ESPN improves for next year's games; the '05 ESPN edition just didn't live up to MVP's standards.
How can you ask me a question like that?  Do you ask The Beatles that??

EA has worked pretty closely with the schools to get this thing going. My former co-workers at Baylor sent in over 200 photos plus a half-hour video tour of the ballpark to EA, and from the screenshots I've seen, EA has nailed it. I'll probably be picking up a PS2 just for this game come spring.

Haha! I thought I was the only one who did that.  However, I didn't really know what I was doing and made myself a pretty bad fielder.  Every time there's runners on base the announcers say "They'll be going home on a hit to left, that guy's got a weak arm."

Slightly off topic but do you know how to make legendary players appear in the Free Agent pool?  My friend's MVP team has Yogi Berra and Lou Gehrig, I'd love to hook up that action but they don't appear on the market in my legacy game...

I think you can only use the unlocked Legendary players in the exhibition game.  I haven't been able to use them in Dynasty mode.  For exhibition, unlock them using the MVP points you accrued, then go to rosters.  They should be in the FA market, and you can add them to the 'Stros.  Be sure to save the new roster.  Then, if you ever want to play with the legend, you have to load the roster prior to starting the game.  It's kind of confusing, I know, but it's worth it to have Walter Johnson and Babe Ruth in the mud-n-blood.  I have the PC version, so it might be different for you if you have a console version.

My character is 7 feet tall and has the strongest arm possible.  They keep saying "this guy throws strikes to home plate at will."  It really messes up the balance of the game, but I can't help but like being the best player ever.  I play on All-Star (not yet ready for MVP level) but Boss Miller usually helps us get the win.

I wouldn't know what Rice's park looks like, except I recognize the Medical Center buildings in the background!
