Somebody must not have watched game 4 between us and the Braves.   The thing that is really funny is that's over 5 mil a year to serve as Rivera's setup man.

Didn't they do basically the same thing a few years ago with Wohlers?  Maybe not as much money, but way overspent on him too.

Farnsworth, to be fair, was maybe more "lights out" than Lidge was down the stretch...until Game 4.  Of course, Brad has his own Game 4 memories to match.  Still, the Yankees throw around Monopoly money, not real dollars.

Farnsworth has exactly the kind of mental toughness required to make it in New York.  He should do fine.

Not.

Wohlers was briefly a Yanqui but he was someone they just picked up on the cheap.  It was Steve Karsay who they signed to a multi-year, mega-bucks deal (4 yrs @ $22mil ?) to set-up for Rivera.  He promptly got hurt at the end of year 1 and wound up pitching a total of 13 innings over the final 3 years of that deal which just ran out at the end of this season.
Between Karsay, Chris Hammond, Wohlers and now maybe Farnsworth, the Yanx haven't exactly had a lotta luck with ex-Brave relievers -- at least since signing a younger Mike Stanton almost a decade ago.

The Farnsworth deal isn't final yet, btw.
Supposedly Texas is countering with something.

And just now comes word via NYC radio that Farnsworth IS in the NYY fold for 3/$17, having apparently turned down 4/$21 from the stRangers.

this is actually great.  i can't decide what i would like more.  to see him on the DL the whole damn year ala karsay, or to see a late-inning meltdown that costs them the playoffs.

There is one good thing about that whole "Tampa Connection" setup... a steady supply of high quality recreational drugs...
When the Clark is dead, Spack will eat his spleen. Before he dies, Spack will put his posts under the knife so the Clark will see his threads wiped out forever...
