i love Chris Burke!
« on: October 09, 2005, 08:14:40 pm »
he has been my favorite player all year!

seriously, being in the playoff cauldron with the great veterans this team has and experiencing firsthand the qualities that make us love the Astros will make guys like Burke and Scott so much better players.

how did you like it, Beltran?

"Ground ball right side, they're not gonna be able to turn two OR ARE THEY, THROW, IS IN TIME!!! WHAT AN UNBELIEVABLE TURN BY BRUNTLETT AND EVERETT, AND THEY CUT DOWN MABRY TO END THE GAME, AND THE ASTROS LEAD THIS NATIONAL LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES THREE GAMES TO ONE!!!!!"

There was another in the Crawford Boxes that said "Beltran Blows." Saw it on Berkman's grand slam but not after that, so it may have disappeared.

Beltran is yesterdays news.  Why do the fans still care about him?

He said about 5 words in the interview, then said 'Here, talk to the kid' and shoved Burke in front of the TV.

It's just a shame they could only talk to two people. How do you pick a player of the game?

Burke? Clemens? Ausmus? Wheeler? Berkman? It's impossible. So many people made contributions.

If there was ever the epitome of a team victory, this was it. It was like little league, everyone played.

Chamo at first was a rollercoaster ride.

Did you hear Garner at the press conference when they asked him about our lineup and Chavez? He said no, he wasn't concerned about Chavez at first at all.

Sure you weren't, Garner.

"Chavez came up as a shortstop..."

Chavez might be closer to throwing up a shortstop than playing there these days.

i'm sure he was not concerned about Chavez at first. anyone who can catch the ball can play there. he blocked that hot shot like a catcher too.

Hell no he wasn't concerned.  He had no other choice.  No percentage in being concerned. 'Sides, Chamo is pretty nimble around the bag.

For a minute I wanted to choke Vizcaino for non-chalanting that ball in the 18th he threw in the dirt.

i think he was trying to guide the ball to first instead of firing it.

The real question is, what does this do for his trade value?  Is he going on a run to pump up his value like Carlo$ did last year?

This reads like a joke, but does bring up a question about his and the Astros 2nd base future best left 'til after the Astros post-season run ends in the TZ, or now in MLR.

My first thought when Biggio's extension was signed was: "Good, that means Burke may have played his last game as an Astro." I don't think that I have changed my mind but I sure am glad he was still an Astro yesterday. If it had been my decision, he wouldn't even have been on the playoff roster. Somehow I need to get access to Purpura and Garner so that I can give them my best baseball advice, they can do the opposite and the Astros are guaranteed WS champs.

Jim,
You don't think Zobrist, as well as he's played in the low minors, could make a push to win the 2B job in a couple years?  I know he has a long way to go but that kid generates great reviews over in the Minor Opinions section.  I look forward to seeing what he can do.  I would think Bruntlett would get first shot if Burke is traded.  Who knows?  But to be honest, it's a luxury to discuss these hypotheticals.  Regardless of who  they find to fill in at 2B, once Biggio is finished, I just hope they remain competitive.

And that subject line said it all for me last night.  Wow.  There were three moments in last nights game where I busted out my idiot dance (because I look like an idiot when I do it).  I had my wife and 2 yr old laughing, as well as the 2 yr old imitating me.
Apathy, Apathy, Apathy ... ahh screw it...

Perhaps, but, it doesn't seem, right now, that Biggio will be done until after the 2007 season.  Both Conrad and Burke will be 28 for the 2008 season.  By that time, if he continues to hit, Zobrist will be ready as well.  The future is quite difficult to see.

Now, screw this talk here.  We've got today to deal with!

Before Saturday's game, they introduced both rosters.  The Braves got booed to varying degrees, but Mike Hampton got a rousing cheer.  WTF?  He shit on us and the town we rode in on.  Fuck him.  I booed as best I could.
Courage is what it takes to stand up and speak; courage is also what it takes to sit down and listen.
