I think Billy Wagner had enjoyed retirement.

So much orange in those stands.  I cried all October in 2017 - I get the feeling I’ll be crying a bit before the nights over.

Asked how it felt to put on the jersey, he said “tight”.

Meadows is a tough out.

These guys have somehow put together a really, really, really good team.

And here's another thing - they're not really unlikable in any way, unlike most of the other teams still playing.

Absoulutely.  Of course, I have personal reasons, but if not for the Astros, I'd easily be a Rays fan.

I liked the old days when the Astros were my NL team and the Rays were my AL team.  No question which team is number one for me but I am glad they don't play in the same division.

Really impressive what they did with their pitching staff with Snell and Glasnow missing a huge chunk of the season.

He needs 30 more at bats before he's ready to hit in a big league game.  His defense, however...

Kiermaier played for the Canberra Cavalry in the ABL, and that is unforgivable.

Which is nothing to sneeze at.  But he's just not going to  be productive at the plate in the postseason.

I think the pitch hit him, so he thought he was getting a base.

Replay showed it was nowhere close.  That much deviation off the bounce would be devastating in cricket.

B3:

Maldonado...2-0...2-1 on a pitch over his head...2-2 on a pitch even higher over his head...3-2 on a pitch 5 feet off the plate...takes a fastball belt high right down the center of the plate.
Springer flies out F8 in shallow RCF...crowd goes crazy
Altuve...3-0...3-1 on a pitch at the shoulders...3-2...doubles to LF
Brantley...quickly 0-2...1-2...2-2...strikes out swinging at a pitch in the dirt, ball gets away from catcher towards the dugout, Brantley doesn't realize it and doesn't run at first...now he does, catcher runs it down and nips him at 1B

Astros with another LOBster in scoring position...no score

B5:

Tucker...full up...walks
Maldonado...throws over...throw over...throw over...Machete squares around and takes a meatball...1-1...hits one right down the LF line, dumbass ball boy forgets to pick up the stool and the ball hits it and bounces straight to the LFer...Maldonado has to settle for a single and Tucker has to stop at 3B...ball boy cost a run and a base
Springer waves at a pitch way off the plate...waves at a pitch way inside...swings and misses at a ball that would have hit him in the face had he not dove backwards
Altuve grounds into 6U-3 double play

Still 1-0 Astros

This commentary crew is getting worse as the game progresses.

The worst part is, it's not Piershitzki.  He's making sense, and Garardi is arguing with him, and I think Pierzynski wants to punch him in the mouth.

T6:

Adames...0-2...one handed punches a single up the middle
Diaz...full count...strikes out swinging, Adames caught stealing 2-6
Meadows...0-2...foul ball right into Maldonado's mitt, but can't handle it...1-2...flies out F7

1-0 Astros

Not the kid's fault...blame Springer...hell, the ball boy would have put up a better at bat.

2 highpoints of the broadcast:

1. An ump texted Girardi saying the reason Pierzynski never got a concussion was there was nothing to concuss

2. Girardi said Steinbrenner complained about him dropping foul tips and wanted them to practice catching them

Otherwise it's been a garbage dump.

I like Adam Dunn's text to Pierz around the 4th saying he had to turn the game off because Cole had already struck him out 3 times while he was watching from the couch.

So 2 of the 3 best moments came from people not in the booth.

Or stadium.

I fear that when the Astros travel to Florida I'm going to lose my Astros radio feed option. They seem to offer only the home team feeds. I like Dewayne Staats for obvious reasons, but I'm going to go with the Tampa radio feed in Spanish.

And I'm going to tweet at whoever is doing the game that day, hopefully these same jackoffs, that they are so bad I would rather listen to the Spanish broadcast of the opposing team done by a guy who is motherfucking BLIND.

That'll teach 'em.

B7:

Pagan in for the Rays

Gurriel grounds to SS, Adames throws it in the dirt and Choi can't pick it...TE6
Correa doubles to LF on the first pitch, Gurriel to 3B
Tucker...leaps and swings at the first pitch WAY over his head...taps back to the mound...runners have to hold
Maldonado...infield in...tries for the squeeze, Machete fouls it off...1-2 now...with a  bloop to LCF for a single...Yuli goes back to tag and barely beats the throw to the plate, Correa to 3B
Springer pops out F4 in terrible at bat w/RISP
Altuve...takes a couple of fastballs away for strikes...2-2...flies out F9

2-0 Astros

Lowe strikes out swinging
d'Arnaud...full count...fouling off pitches...strikes out swinging
Kiermaier doubles to CF on the first pitch
Adames...full count...walks

And that's all for Cole, Osuna in

B8:

Anderson in for the Rays

Brantley...0-2...pops out F5
Bregman...0-2...grounds to 3B, right over the bag, Diaz grabs it but has no chance to get Bregman...infield single
Alvarez singles to RF on the first pitch, Bregman to 2B
Gurriel flies out F9, Bregman tags and moves to 3B
Correa singles to RF, Bregman scores, Alvarez to 2B

That chases Anderson, Poche in

Tucker...0-2 on pitches in his eyes...takes strike three on the corner

To the 9th...3-0 Astros

Another walk loads the bases and puts the tying run in scoring position, and that chases Osuna.

T9:

Osuna trying to close it out...Marisnick into CF, Springer to RF

Meadows singles to as Springer shifted WAY over towards CF
Pham singles up the middle on the first pitch, Meadows to 2B
Wild pitch, Choi won't get out of the way as Meadows gets to 3B
Choi...3-2...walks, Pham to 3B
Wendle to pinch run for Choi
Garcia...full count...grounds into FC, Wendle out 5-4 at 2B...Meadows scores, Pham to 3B...Bregman bobbled it so no double play
Lowe...full count...fouls into Maldonado's glove, can't hang on...walks, Garcia to 2B

That's it for Osuna, Harris in

d'Arnaud...full count...strikes out swinging
Kiermaier grounds out 3-1

Astros win!!!!!

3-1 is the final as the Good Guys grab a 2-0 series lead

Not sour grapes:

Go back to just the bottom of the 8th. Several pitches off the plate were called strikes.

Quote
Gerrit Cole finished with 33 swinging strikes tonight.

That's the most by a pitcher in a postseason game in the pitch-tracking era (since 2008).

There have been just 2 regular-season outings in that span with more: 35, by Danny Duffy on 8/1/16 and Clayton Kershaw on 9/2/15

Osuna threw a lot of non-competitive sliders in 1-2 and 2-2 counts, leading to the two walks.

Occasionally I go to work.  I don't work much, which is good, but I have don't have much say on when I go, which ain't so good.

That’s harsh!

If that ball boy had moved his stool, we might have an extra run.

On the road for most of the game and missed the stool "impact".
Nice take on it, along with a video, here:

Quote
....for one inning, in one game, a puny wooden stool sat in the path of destruction that is the Astros' offense and emerged the victor. That simple stool proved that the Astros can be defeated. The problem is that it may take an army of furniture to do it.
Nothing worthwhile comes without pain, ask any Astros fan.
