Verlander playing the role of stopper. A’s, a fastball hitting team, struggle when the FB exceeds 95mph. Should be interesting.

It’s confirmed:  Santa Claus is an Astros fan. He’s sitting in the first row. Just behind home plate to the right.

Altuve with another aggravating first pitch ground out to short leading to the double play, negating Springers leadoff infield single. Grrrr. Brantley flies out to left to end the inning.

Verlander starts with 2 K’s in the bottom of the inning. The deuce looks very sharp.

A single to the outfield plates a run.

Why bunt?

Then wave weakly at a curve?

An opportunity tailor made for his skill set.

Outer half and go the other way.

Inner half drive that mother.

Instead he's in the hole and he swings over the slider after 3 pitches weren't in the same zip code.

Oh the irony of the Stro poll.

They picked Altuve, who has been straight trash tonight for who who you'd build a 10 year career around from the Astros lineup.

No. First? No. Last? No.

He would be my pick to be first. Closely followed by Springer, the guy who came in next to last.

Glad Correa isn't looking for a pitch to hit with the first two he takes with two outs and a runner on 2nd.

10 years of healthy Correa skillset, is probably enough to be in the HoF. He has elite power, hit tool, very good speed for his size and good defense. The only thing he hasn't had is consistent health

Spinger is second most talented, then Bregman and then Altuve. Altuve has by far the smallest margin for error.

Dang it.

Box score indicates the pen did its job. After the Pressly walk in the 8th (Astros only BB allowed of the game), A's held without a walk or a hit until the 12th.

Box score on the offensive side . . . anemic.  9 hits in 13 innings (9 for 47). 2 for 9 RISP.  12 LOB.  Scoreless in 12 of the 13 innings.  1 hit in the extra frames.

The beginning of August fooled us, but we've now officially entered the August doldrums. I don't know why this seems to happen so consistently. Maybe everybody is tired, and they don't yet have the September urgency/excitement to help them overcome it.

Extra innings was about the last thing they needed.

It is the ebb and flow that every team (even those with exceptional talent) experiences in every season.

It happened to the Astros in 2017 and 2018 and the 2017 Dodgers had an even worse meltdown.
The problem is that none of those teams had a team in their division as good as this year's A's.
It's also concerning that the August funk is happening this year when the team is mostly healthy (injuries were a big part of the problem in the two previous years).
When the Clark is dead, Spack will eat his spleen. Before he dies, Spack will put his posts under the knife so the Clark will see his threads wiped out forever...

17 straight games with a doubleheader and a scratched starter.

JV strikes out 11.  Pressly issues the only walk for the staff in the 8th inning.  But the offense musters 2 runs in 13 frames.  This after scores at 7, 9, and 6 runs and losing games this week alone.

That's baseball. Sometimes it hurts like a bitch.

The A's won 97 games last year. The division lead at one point last year was down to a game or two and then they went on a long run and won the division by 6 games. This team is still ahead of where 2017 and 2018 teams were at this point
