George did what George does. Astros 1-0  after one batter.

Greg Gibson is having a rough afternoon behind the plate so far. His strike zone is all kinds of fucked up.

Gameday says the HPU's ball-strike calls are just random utterances.

That is accurate.

And George checked his swing on strike 2.

Eh, that was 50/50. He was right on the line.

However, it was pretty rough after "strike 1" was called on 3 inches inside.

Did he seem to cut down his swing a bit w/ 2 strikes this time?

Gameday also says there's no correlation between an Astro swinging the bat and the pitch's actual proximity to the strike zone.

Batting Averages as of 5th inning in St. Louis

Springer:  .292
Altuve: .286 * (just started hitting now)
Brantley: .322
Alvarez: .333
Correa: .290
Gurriel: .301
Reddick: .280 *** (been above 300 for most of the season)
Bregman: .259
Chirinos: .232

Batting average may be going the way of the dinosaur if you believe Bregs, but damn 7/9 of our hitters have a chance to hit above .300 this year.  Has this ever happened?

Great out by Miley as Martinez is a pretty tough hitter to get pitches by. At least appears that from what I’ve seen this series.

What was the HP ump jawing at Altuve about when he crossed home plate.  Ump seemed pissed.

I like that Alvarez got the green light on that 3-0 pitch. That's going to make other pitchers think twice about get-me-over pitches on future 3-0 counts.

I don't want to seem greedy, but I really thought we were going to get more runs that inning.

Altuve can be incredibly maddening at times, but 1500 hits in 1194 games is amazing. 1.25+ hits per game.

What a turd Bauer is.

https://twitter.com/fskansascity/status/1155571432845279232?s=21

I like that the catcher had to ask the umpire for another ball so that he could give it to Tito to give to the new pitcher.

I’m laughing at the second baseman’s reaction, he thought Bauer was gonna drill him.

What a turd Bauer is.

After the game I hope his teammates mock him til he cries. What a dipshit.

Francona came out and asked a very trenchant question, then chased him up the tunnel.

Bauer's behavior is that of a petulant child's.
Everyone's talking, few of them know
The rest are pretending, they put on a show
And if there's a message I guess this is it
Truth isn't easy, the easy part's shit

Interesting route by Springer to a good catch.

Oof, Alvarez misplayed the heck out of that double allowing the runner to score.
There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.

No, no, no. That runner was going to score. Two outs, he was running on contact, the misplay did not cause the run. He would have scored if Reddick was out there.

Yep,  wasn't "expertly" played off the wall, but that run scores regardless.

We really needed more than that after that error.  Need to make that cost them.

My second son is named Max, and Stassi is his favorite player. He asked for the number 12 on his little league team. Fear this is going to end in heartbreak soon.

I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing AstroTurf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, torture of Bud Selig.

Good job by Rondon. He is an enigma. He throws 97-99 and has a good slider. He has been a solid closer for the Cubs and for us. I think perhaps our view of him is skewed by an occasional spectacular failure and by his disastrous stint as an opener. He can be important down the stretch.

Looked like it took Altuve a little while to get serious about getting it going between 1st and 2nd, and it cost him in the end.

Everyone thinks this team needs bullpen help that's not currently on the roster.

That may be true,  but guys like Rondon and Collin need to step up.  Hopefully today is something Hector builds on.
