ESPN cannot contain themselves over the prospect of Judge returning and hitting leadoff. I hope he strikes out four times.

That was quite a double-play from Gurriel and Altuve. And quite a stinkbomb from Chirinos/White/Marisnick in the top of the 2nd.

No shit. If that ball doesn't take a perfect bounce off the wall, Straw would have been standing at 3rd.

I love watching him run. His form is really good. I keep wondering how he would do as a 400m guy.

Aaargghhh. Yordan chasing up and out of the zone. He's going to have to learn to spit on those.

Lead-off double goes to waste. Two successive innings with runners on 2nd with no outs, and no runs to show for it.

Oh, I understand that. I'm just thinking out loud on a Friday evening. I'm sure he'll adjust, because his plate discipline is so good elsewhere. He just probably hasn't seen pitchers who can consistently do what they're doing to him right now.

Didn’t seem like a bad pitch to Sanchez, the mistake was to Maybin.

Sanchez is a butcher behind the plate. I'd like to see them run on him a bunch, because I think that will only feed his sloppiness.

Peacock has looked pretty good tonight. That Sanchez blast is the only real blemish. Time for the bats to wake up.

Man, Peacock painted the edges on that Hicks AB. And Judge, too. And he's pretty much been doing that all night.

Still 2-1 after five innings.

Trying to remember the last time I saw a 10 pitch at bat in which 0 strikes had been thrown.

Fuck, and the one strike results in a GIDP

Reddick fouling off balls 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9 there before GIDP ain't helping the cause. Britton got two outs without throwing a strike to three hitters.

Bregman passes up two pitches that he could have driven to the Yankees' ridiculously short RF, waiting instead for something he could pop up to CF.

They’re going through motions, perhaps banking on the injured to rejion the team

I hope you don’t believe that.

Nor will taking that fastball for strike three to end the game.

Not a strike.

Which? Strike three to Alvarez?  That was all kinds of strike, every day and twice on Sundays.

Yeah, I didn't think there was any doubt about strike three.

First five pitches were out of the zone, but the last one  certainly was.

I wasn’t watching on tv but on the strike box on MLB it was definitely out of the zone.

100% a strike. I don't necessarily blame him though, Chapman had basically thrown zero fastballs in the zone. He had to be looking slider and hope the ole number 1 misses

Go look again. It was several ball widths in the zone. I'd post the pitch from GZ, but the asshole who owns this joint doesn't like pictures in posts.

I tried to copy photo from gamezone but can’t make it work. It showed pitch clearly high and out of zone but.....

Yeah, I just saw the video. Looks like a strike to me too, and even if it was borderline, it is one of those situations where it was too close to take.

Not sure what you're seeing, but the MLB app has it well inside the strike zone. It was on the broadcast box, and it clearly was to my eyes. It wasn't even borderline

It wasn't right down the middle, it was in the upper outside quarter of the zone, but I think we'd all be claiming highway robbery if it were our pitcher and it was called a ball.

Ottovino clearly threw four strikes to Straw in his at bat. The ball he threw low and away was not even an inch or two outside the zone or right on the edge. It was actually two or three inches in the zone. Basically there was no doubt it was a strike other than in the mind of home plate umpire Dan Iosongnia's mind who called it a ball. Ottovino and several other players on the Yankees were headed to the bench and when it was called a ball their reaction was extreme disbelief. Of course Straw took the next one thrown right down the middle of the plate for strike four.  The irony to me was in the very first inning, Peacock threw the exact same pitch and he thought he had struck out Aaron Judge. When it was called a ball, he yelled "FUCK!" and snapped his glove at the ball when it was thrown back to him. He got Judge to ground out on the very next pitch.

The pitch to Alvarez to end the game was clearly a strike, all one had to do is wait to hear from the home plate umpire if he thought it was or not, because unless it was a foot into the zone, who knew if Iosognia would think it a strike or not. He got it right on that one but missed several during the game that had both benches chripping a bit.

This is what I was talking about. Looks outside the zone here, but I agree it was a strike.

I’m not disputing if it was a strike with you HH. After seeing the replay I agree that it was. I’m just saying the photo I posted of that pitch clearly shows it out. You have a photo from a different source which clearly shows it in. My issue now is that those sources should match. Especially when my photo comes directly off of MLB’s own app.

The first one I linked was what the MLB app showed.  The second is more accurate from PITCHf/x.

And I'm not disputing you saw a pic that showed it outside the zone, I'm saying what you saw is entirely inaccurate.  The replay is available.  See for yourself.

At least the home plate umpire was consistent on pitch #1. That is the same pitch he would not give to Peacock or Ottovino. In terms of pitch #7, not even close to being a ball. Clearly not an issue that it was borderline or even an argument for Alvarez to make. Which he didn't.
