Come on, blue.

Cole didn’t leave the outcome in the umpire’s hands on the next batter.

What a terrible job of umpiring.

Not even talking about his fucking horrendous strike zone.

Exactly. You don’t run into an out with the heart of the order up. If he stays put it’s 1st and 3rd only 1 out

The players union seriously needs to pursue some sort of veto/relegation power that allows them to vote a particularly egregious umpire off the island at the end of the season. I imagine that would be tricky, since the umpires have their own union that negotiates with MLB separately from the players, but there has to be some way to get rid of the truly horrendous umps.

It's gotta suck when you know you are the better team and one guy can change it all.

Of course, it doesn't help when they hit where you ain't but still.

It also doesn’t help when you can’t fucking score any runs.

We're playing this shitty against the Rangers (and Rays prior), and we have the A's and the Yankees coming up.  Could be in a serious hole to start the season.

There's no accountability so he can do whatever he wants.  i don't know why a Ranger pitcher throws a strike.

Stassi grounds to 3B, Cabrera throws it wild...TE5
Reddick grounds into 4-6-3 double play
Springer has to dive out of the way of strike one...1-1...grounds to SS...Andrus juggles it...E6
Altuve takes strike one in the other batters box...ball in the dirt just misses...2-1...3-1...takes strike that almost hits him...swings and misses at a pitch two feet off the plate.  Minor did not come within a foot of the plate that entire at bat.

Worst possible scenario for a team struggling to score runs.

Hitters are distracted,  Cole is distracted.

I’d be interested to know the final count of called strikes tonight that are COMPLETELY outside of the strike box.

I could go back thru the video and count myself but don’t think I could stomach watching this shit again.

That's the second steal tonight where Cole seemed to have zero interest in holding the runner.

The first one scored on a freaking infield hit.

Ron Kulpa did not cause the Astros to lose this game, the Astros shitting hitting did that.

Ron Kulpa fucked the Astros on multiple occasions because he is an over sensitive little bitch who had to make himself the center of attention.

Nothing is likely to happen, but at a minimum he should be suspended for at least a series.

I don't usually like barstool but this was very well done. It was definitely an all time performance.

Wow.  Talk about too many villains: one of those clips involved Kulpa and AJ Pierzynski... of the Texas Rangers.

Balls/ strikes are one thing.  His behavior was unprofessional.  Rabbit ears in the second inning.

He fucked the Rangers pretty good in the World Series.

Sad thing is, he isn't anywhere close to top ten worst umpires in the game.

In another twist...AJ was the one at fault there.  Also, I believe that was the game Marwin broke up Yu's no-hitter in the 9th, right?

Sigh.

No,  Marwin broke up a perfect game.

The clip there was simply another time the Keystone Astros were dominated by real baseball players.

That was much more than bad umpiring last night. That was deliberately dishonest umpiring.

This. Beyond incompetence or inconsistency. That kind of behavior should be suspension-worthy, and repeated offenses should involve lengthier suspensions.

Agreed, yes the Astros still could have mustered a few runs but the guys had no idea what was going to be called a strike and what was going to be called a ball. “Culpa” fucked that entire game up.

If the powers-that-be determine that an umpire deliberately missed calls out of spite, he should be immediately fired - permanently.  The whole "Integrity of the Game" thing.

I don’t know how you determine that he deliberately missed calls. That part was incompetence. I am referring to his attitude and deliberate attempt to stir up trouble over his bad calls.

I think the second strike to White was a deliberately missed call.

This is pure speculation but I wonder if Kulpa's behavior was motivated in part by the Hinch/Angel Hernandez kerfuffle in ST.

I don't know how you can't call the "ball" he called on Gallo that was about 3 inches from right down the middle unintentional. Missing that either is intentional or you're bad enough at your job that you shouldn't be doing it anymore.

Not only that but he delayed the call for the obvious purpose of fucking with Cole.

I was not watching, but I read Cole started for the dugout as the ball crossed the plate. The SOB umpire, I think, called it a ball because Cole did not wait for his strikeout call. Intentional dishonesty to punish Cole for some imagined transgression.

Often wrong, but never in doubt.

That was the pitch that set off the whole rodeo.

I heard talking heads today saying that umpire reviews done by the league should be made public.  It'll never happen but like that idea.

Has Hinch and/or Cintron been fined or suspended for this incident?  Any official review of Kulpa?  I could find nothing on the internet about either.

Two good articles, the last one revealing that Kulpa was right in enforcing a "time saving" rule while obviously attempting to stir the pot, rather than calm the emotions.

https://boston.cbslocal.com/2019/04/04/mlb-has-to-discipline-umpire-ron-kulpa-incident-astros-aj-hinch/

Cole was ignoring the warmup clock - and Kulpa enforced it - with relish.
https://news.yahoo.com/minor-victory-rangers-4-0-win-over-frustrated-041005087--spt.html
Quote
Umpire crew chief Jerry Meals, who was working third base, said Cole was upset leaving the game because Kulpa had limited him on his warmup pitches in the fourth inning after the pitcher was late coming out of the dugout then. Meals said Kulpa was enforcing MLB pace-of-play policy when he stepped in front of the plate.

"We've been instructed to tell him one more pitch, he ignored that. Threw another one, fine. Ignored it again, wanted to keep throwing," Meals said. "He has a responsibility to come out of the dugout earlier to warm up. He waited until his catcher was ready, which is not what you do."

As for the ejections, Meals said the Astros dugout "basically erupted" after a called strike on the first pitch thrown to Tyler White in the second.
Was that a Cole-problem or an Astros problem?  Someone else can warm up the pitcher as the catcher puts on his gear.  Apparently that was not done, and the warmup clock was ticking.

When the whole dugout erupted over White's called strike, apparently, an ejection was called for.  But there was no one to eject.  Someone had to self-select.  Enter Cintron.

No excuse for the way Kulpa acted, but it was helpful to learn a little more about some rules that were involved.
Nothing worthwhile comes without pain, ask any Astros fan.
