Nelson Cruz in 2019

I also think its unlikely that Gattis is with the Astros next season.  And Nelson Cruz would be a great DH on this team.

I guess the answer is whether they really believe that Tyler White (or JD Davis) could be successful in the fulltime DH role, and, therefore, the money that would be used to get Cruz could be better spent elsewhere.
Boom!

Cruz would be great, but I think they'll stay with White at DH and focus on guys who can play the position. They have to re-sign or replace MarGo, too.

If White can do the job, his would be a great story for low draft choices and undrafted free agents to keep working and not give up.
Nothing worthwhile comes without pain, ask any Astros fan.

Yeah, they're not paying good money after the year White has had.

Besides, Marvin, I'd love to them to pursue Maldonado for a few more years.  I don't know the price he will fetch, but he's been an awesome addition, IMO.

If the Astros are going after a free agent, how about Patrick Corbin? Strom and company might be able to make him even better.

I just can't get past Cruz's age. He'll be 38 next season, and he's going to start sucking sometime soon. White is a good option—he's younger, cheaper, and he's been better than Cruz this year. If it's my money, I spend it somewhere other than DH.

I don't think Marwin will be back. I think he will got offered more than the Astros are willing to pay.
There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.

I agree. Ben Zobrist is the best comp for marwin and he got 4/48 at age 34, 5 years older than marwin is now. Cant see the astros giving him 12 a year for 4 or more years and I think that's what he'll get on the open market

Agree 100%. Forgot that he was a FA at the end of the season.

I think it depends on how much more. Don’t discount the bond these guys have and their desire to play together.
Often wrong, but never in doubt.

Tyler White is my 2019 DH.

Young,  durable,  productive.

Free agent dollars will need to guys who pitch or can play in the field.

In some ways; this is Marwin's team. His longevity, his durability, his versatility, his quiet leadership, his skills all stamp the team. His absence would leave a huge hole in the clubhouse and on the field. He is the team's center of gravity. I doubt that Luhnow and Crane undervalue his contributions. I have to think that they will do everything within reason to keep him and that he will meet them half way.
