Lunchtime start today...
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

Figured it out on this PC anyway.  I had disabled media:autoplay:enabled within Firefox, and evidently you can't force it to play manually no matter what.  Changed the setting and back in business.  This was not the issue the last two days however.

Man, Marisnik's throw home was fucking awful.

His setup and timing were all wrong.  It's like it didn't occur to him the runner might try for home.

Yeah, he double clutched then looked super funky throwing it.

And the runner almost fell over 3rd going home, he didn't seem to think he was going to be sent until he got there, either.

A cool 100 RBI for the season on Bregman's 2 run-double.  Ball was smoked down the LF line.

Actually, that was a base hit. And Springer grounds out as the next hitter.

I’m starting to think walking the leadoff hitter is *not* such a good thing after all.

I’m not sure how she eats all the shit she does. She must purge during the 7th inning stretch.

Some notes at the 90% mark of the season:

The Astros are 92-54, 52-22 on the road. The Astros need one more road win to tie their record set last year, two more to break it.
Bregman's 100th RBI is the first Astro year since 1999 to have a 100 RBI guy with Carlos Lee. Bregman is the first MLB player in history to hit 50 doubles and 30 home runs while playing the majority of his games at 3B. He's the first MLB player to log 50 doubles and 30 home runs since Pujols in 2012. From May 2 - present, Bregman: .308/.408/.609.

It's the 11th time Cole has struck out 9+ batters in a game.

Hinch on Josh James: His poise continues to impress me, his stuff impresses me a little bit more, he's got a lot of weapons to go after hitters. Today is a lesson of pitch execution for him and he still pitched well enough to go back out there and he did his job.

Yep.  If I'm the rest of the league, I wouldn't want to have to play the Rays or the A's right now.  Luckily for the Astros, they have to play each other.  The A's also have a series against the Mariners (as do the Astros), who while not exactly lighting the world on fire right now, will be playing for the postseason lives.  Got ourselves a real pennant race this year.

Carlos had three monster Astro seasons as a run producer. (His two other full seasons were merely excellent.) In 2008 he had 100 rbi in only 115 games, fewer than 500 plate appearances!

I never understood the general animus directed at him from a large contingent of fans. Sure, maybe dicknose overpaid, sure, Carlos comes off as a bit aloof, sure, he hit into a lot of double plays (current team says Hold my beer...), but he was truly elite at what he was brought to the team to do.

They've been playing for their postseason lives all month and are failing.  They just suffered a 2 game sweep by the Padres.  Though I'm sure they'll play the Astros like they're the 27 Yankees, my money is on them having an under .500 record for September.  Having to play the A's will help that along.

This is the weekend for any separation because after Tampa the A's get the Angels, Twins, Mariners, Angels.

IF, that is *IF*, the Rays take care of business this weekend I'd put money on them passing the Yankees for the final wildcard spot.  Their schedule is set up for it playing non-contenders and the Yankees while the Yankees have two series against the Red Sox and the one against the Rays.

Piscotty continues to kill the Astros.  O's get 2 in the first and he gets a solo shot in the bottom of the frame (Bundy's given up 38 HRs this year, tops in MLB). 2-1 after 2.5

Bundy's got great stuff and has looked good outside of 2 hangers (the other was a rulebook 2B to dead CF).  I wonder what his problems have been?

eta:  4-1 O's now after 4.  Raining in Balmer, not hard enough to stop it yet.
