I think it's time to break out the Frito pie.

Some would say it is missing onion, too.  I'm not a real fan of cheese and meat together.  But, make it the best you can.

the first frito pies I ever had was in high school at tourneys where they spilt the side of a  small bag of fritos and poured the chili in topped with cheese.  would those work?

I know some people don’t love the deli sandwich genre, but what about cheeseburgers and pizza? I’m just having a hard time understanding why, if one eats meat, and eats cheese, one wouldn’t like them together in many different forms.

I don't do cheeseburgers.

Pizza and queso with a good pan sausage is okay  It's my quirk.

I think it was about this time last year that I made a run to the 7-11 a couple of blocks away to get 1) a bag of fritos, 2) some of that "chili" that squirts out of that machine where you doctor up your hotdogs and 3) some of that "cheese" that squirts out of the same machine.

My bowels were never the same.  But the Astros won the WS so it was a small price to pay.

The chili into the bag of Fritos version was served in great quantities at our local swimming pool when I was a kid. With hindsight it seems that the dish might not have been the most sensible possible menu item for a public swimming pool.

I like fried calamari. I like ice cream. Not really interested in fried calamari ice cream.

I know for a fact that garlic ice cream exists. I’ll bet somewhere, someone is trying to make an edible fried calamari ice cream.

I’m not saying I personally endorse either of those ideas. Meat and cheese, though, I strongly support.

Beer floats are pretty tasty. And the chocolate avocado shakes they have in Indonesia are a meal unto themselves.

I like Thai food more than anything. I like ice cream sometimes.

I went to Portland Oregon once and might have had some legal “candy”. It was great!

Next thing I know I’m downing a PINT of Thai chicken peanut satay ice cream. I thought I had experienced the same sensation that the first person felt when they tried chocolate ice cream for the first time. I was so convinced of its greatness that I bought another pint to take home. Heck... I even made it back before it melted.

Next day I was so excited to revisit the next great ice cream flavor.... holy shit it was so disgusting! Like inexplicably bad.

Portland is a curious hotbed of Thai cuisine. I had been previously unaware of the ice cream angle, though. I think I might try a scoop of the fish sauce. Would you go with a sugar cone with that or have it in a bowl for purity's sake? You'll have to let us know.

If it's anything like Thailand, they'll be forcing fucking mangoes down your throat like their livelihoods depended on it.  I reckon I like mangoes as much as the next guy, but damn, not at every fucking meal.

I'm with you. I was once standing on Ratchadamnoen Klang Rd watching as a fellow lovingly sprinkled chile powder onto my green mango slices. Might've been some papaya, too, now that I think about it. Anyway, I happen to glance over and spot a McDonald's, which is PACKED. I'm just standing there looking at those people with my mouth open. I probably inhaled twelve cubic feet of carbon monoxide.

I’m in Portland right now. I passed up the “candy” store on my was to the bar. Made it just in time to see Story hit one into the Crawford boxes.

I did pick up some Mango Cart Wheat Ale on my way back to the hotel. I hope the bbg’s recognize my sacrifice.

Squid ink reminds me of when I took a couple of good ol’ boys from Houston out on my boat and we caught a bunch of squid.  They kept getting ink shots over them as they brought them in the boat.  The first one was funny because both the boys froze like it was a gunshot.  When I thanked him for not letting the ink get all over the boat they figured out it was probably not lethal.  The boys got the ultimate revenge though, we took the little bastards home and ate them.

That made me think of my maternal grandma.  She'd "sacrifice" a live chicken then make chicken and dumplings.  Ah, good memories.

I usually do yardwork instead of the traditional Frito pie. Before the Giant series, I worked in the yard all weekend including redoing my sprinkler system. Last weekend, I did fuck all. I'm going to do a rare weekday mow today to appease the BBGs, though nothing may satisfy them at this point.

I think this might actually all be my fault...

We got an orange cat before the 17 season and named him Astro. We all know what happened next.

I got divorced earlier this year and the ex kept the cat since I travel for work constantly. Ever since Astro moved out of my house there’s been a revolving door on the dl.

I’m not sure how to fix this one.

Get a new cat.  Mind you I was going to say pussy but figured Jim would not like me to say that.

I'm pulling out the big guns. My little brother is getting married, so I'm going to be gone for four days and won't be able to watch any of the games. That ought to help things out.

I’m really starting to become concerned that making calamari ice cream may be the only remedy. Who has access to an ice cream machine?

I’ll try just about anything. If it means I don’t have to get another cat then sign me up.

I reckon you could damn near neutralize the effects of calamari ice cream production by whipping up a nice batch of Teen Ghai Toon or Phat Phrik Khing flavor. I caution you not to invest too much in my thoughts on this, though. I am not among the site's vanguard in maintaining an up to the minute perspective on current trends in Thai flavored ice creams.

After my chicken satay ice cream experience I feel well equipped to do the calamari thing if it’s deemed necessary. I’ll leave that up to all of you.

At least 50% of the “chicken satay” in Thailand contains no actual chicken.
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

Oh, it contains plenty of chicken, just not cubed breast meat. And just not, like, meat.

Maybe just the serious contemplation of calamari ice cream did the trick.  We'll see.

Let’s hope it demonstrates our commitment to the gods like the moment when Abraham nearly kills his son because actually killing your son OR eating calamari ice cream is clearly an unpleasant outcome to say the least.

It’s clearly BudGirl and AstroJo. They did this.

I’m still willing to eat slimy seafood on ice cram on a moments notice. Just want to be clear about that.

1. No fritos but tortilla chips - Check!
2. Shredded cheese - Check!
3. Hormel low sodium chili no beans (Why!?!?) - ahum, check!

Consume entire mexican version of frito pie, some may say "those are nachos!", but I digress. Check!

Astros score 12, including hitting five homeruns. Check!

I fear what that means for this weekend. My wife told me last night "Go somewhere else please, there is not a nice odor about you right now".

Maybe the key to this whole thing is stumbling upon the shittiest excuse for Frito Pie in existence.  On Saturday night I was brooding over that afternoon's shellacking when I found myself at Stiles' Switch BBQ in the Belterra Village Center on the way to Dripping Springs.  Under "BBQ Specialties" on the menu was Frito Pie.  I was more than happy to do my part and ordered it.

Don't EVER order this unless your idea of Frito Pie is a HUGE stack of Fritos with a few over-salted chunks of meat swimming in pickled onions thrown on top.  Words are insufficient to describe how bad it was.

I will, however, take some credit for Sunday's victory.

This is discouraging. I had the Stiles Switch frito pie several years ago and loved it. Was overall really impressed. Maybe they’ve gone downhill? Or maybe living in hog country for so long has destroyed my palate?

Maybe they make it better at the Lamar location.  I know people have different tastes, but I can't imagine anyone would have liked what I was served.

The Stiles Switch on Lamar was one of the places my brother made a point of taking us when my dad and I visited him in Austin this April. I was very happy with the brisket and pulled pork I got. None of us ordered (or noticed) the Frito Pie.

The pit master (I forget his name) at Stiles Switch Lamar location learned the craft in Taylor under the tutelage of Louie Mueller's son Bobby, He has a great setup and gets his briskets from the same supplier as Franklin Barbeque.

ETA: The pit master's name is Lance Kirkpatrick.
