I was wondering after yesterday if Tucker is pure pull.  Didn’t see enough in spring training, but Ihope not. These days, it sure limits a hitter’s production.

Top 5:

Lil’ Blum in the booth

- sanchez grounds out.
- Engel crushes one off the top of the LCF wall below the yellow line. He reaches 3rd after Tucker mishandles it on the exchange. Ruled a double and an error that allowed the runner to 3rd.
- Anderson up with 1 out and a runner on 3rd. Keuchel strikes him out on a check swing on a slider in the dirt.
- Garcia comes to the plate. He grounds out 5-3. Bregman cut off a slow chopper to short. 3 outs.

- KevAn Smith gets ahead in the count 3-1 and then grounds out to Altuve, 4-3.
- Garcia steps in. He falls behind 0-2. Keuchel misses down and away with the change and then again with the fastball to even the count at 2-2. He grounds out to Bregman, 5-3.

Top 7:

- Moncada singles through the hole on the left side to lead off the inning.
- Sanchez walks on 5 pitches. Runners on first and second with no outs.
- Engel bunts the first pitch straight back for a foul ball. He puts the second one down, and Keuchel’s only play is to first. One out with runners on 2nd and 3rd.
- Anderson hits a deep fly to left to score Moncada on a sac fly. Reddick throws to 3rd to hold Sanchez on 2nd.
- Palka bats for Avisail Garcia. He grounds one up the middle; Marwin scoops it on the right side of second base and throws true to first to get Palka and end the inning.

White Sox tie it up at 1 heading into the stretch.

Bottom 7:

- La Pina leads it off by roping a liner off the scoreboard for a double.
- Reddick flies out just shy of the warning track in center. Yuli rags and advances to third.
- Marwin squares to bunt and takes strike one. Same thing for strike two. He bunts on 0-2 and Yuli scores! Astros retake the lead.
- Tucker grounds out 4-3 to end the inning.

2-1 Astros

I know Kalas called it a suicide squeeze, but it looked more like a safety squeeze to me without the benefit of seeing a replay.

- kevan smith hits a soft fly to right. Two down and a runner still on first.

Yeah he did not break on the first 2 attempts but I think he did on the 0-2 count. But can’t say for sure and I was just repeating what they called from the booth.

Bottom 8:

Giolito still on the mound, which I did not see coming two batters into this affair.

- Stassi grounds out, 6-3.
- Kemp takes ball one and then shows bunt but pulls back for ball two. He gets a broken-bat knock the other way over a leaping Sanchez on a 2-2 pitch. One on, one out.
- springer up. Kemp picks a 1-1 curveball to run on and steals second. Springer works the count to 3-1 but fouls off a fastball down Main St. to bring the count full. He takes ball four on a high breaking ball that barely missed the upper limit of the zone. Runners on first and second, 1 out.

Bottom 8 (cont.):

Soria relieves Giolito.

- Bregman strikes out on a 2-2 breaking ball out of the zone, low and away.
- Altuve falls behind 1-2. The 1-2 fastball barely misses off the outside corner. The 2-2 pitch gets away from the catcher smith, and the runners advance to second and third and the count is full. Altuve watches a curveball for strike three to end the inning and the chance to add insurance.

2-1 Astros heading to the 9th.

He made Tennessee Tech into a really solid program, really enjoyed watching them play this past regional/super regional, they gave Texas all they could handle and almost more.
You may ask yourself, "How do I work this?"

You’re right - I just saw the home plate angle up the line. Great execution, but a bad decision by a right handed pitcher not to throw an unbuntable pitch, especially with a left handed batter up.

Yep. Not paying attention, although if Yuli waited to break until the pitcher was at the top of his delivery, the pitcher cannot adjust to a pitchout. That is the way I taught it, anyway.

My high school coach used to tell me that if I didn’t read it early enough to pitch out and get the runner then to put it in the batter’s ribs.

That is why I coached my runners not to break until the pitcher was at the top of his delivery. No time to adjust.

If you can't read it in time to pitch out, you can't read it in time to drill a guy in the ribs.  At least not intentionally put it there.  Executed properly, it's nearly impossible to defend a suicide squeeze.
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

Yep. Waiting until the top of the delivery to break makes the pitcher’s adjustment impossible.
