Six pitcher no-hitter
« on: June 11, 2018, 12:17:51 pm »
The Athletic has a fantastic article about it today, with interviews from all six pitchers and a couple Yankees for balance.  Several gems in there, including this one:

Quote
Astros equipment manager Dennis Laborio approached Wagner in the clubhouse.

“Drayton wants the ball,” Laborio said to Wagner, referring to Astros owner Drayton McLane, who was in attendance at Yankee Stadium that night.

“Well he’s not getting the ball,” Wagner told him.

Also, Ricky Stone has had a rough go since leaving professional baseball.  Brain tumor in 2008 that gave him some memory issues, and lost his wife to ovarian cancer in 2015.  Oswalt keeps in regular touch with him.
Drinking for two.

I was lucky enough to have been there. My first night ever in the big apple. There was a bowling alley across the street and we celebrated with a good number of Stros fans.
Remember Jesus Alou being called out of the 1st base coaching box to pinch-hit a double vs. the Reds in '79 I think, to win a crucial game, and he patted Morgan on top of the head (ala Benny Hill w/the little bald guy) and Little Joe got pissed.....yeah,that was great.

My dad and I were there too. It was a weird night because I had just found out that my cat Babe, a close companion of 16+ years, had died back home. So I was feeling sad and jubilant at the same time.

My grandparents were at that game.  Brought me back a cool photo my granddad took from the scoreboard.  Hilarious how so many of those guys had no idea what was going on.
