Let’s not fuck this one up, fellas.
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

B1:

Hicks...3-2...walks
Judge singles to LF, Hicks to 3B
Stanton flies out F8 on a diving catch by Marisnick (that’s why he’s on this team, boys and girls). Hicks scores on the sac fly
Sanchez walks, Judge to 2B
Austin...0-2...wild pitch, Judge to 3B, Sanchez to 2B and the infield comes in...2-2 now...strikes out swinging
Torres lines out to 1B

Keuchel really labored, but only gives up the one run

1-0 Yankees

I’m no Marisnick apologist, but Keuchel doesn’t get out of the first inning with only a single run scoring without Marisnick patrolling center field tonight. Plus, 6 other Astros have struck out against Severino, and many of those were way uglier than Jakes at bat.

All true, but it isn’t just tonight.

Andujar grounds out 4-3

Judge bloops a single to shallow RF, Kemp was REALLY deep. Hicks to 3B

Sanchez...0-2...1-2...with a soft routine roller to 2B...no one there...shiftfuck. Romine scores, Judge scores, Stanton to 3B
Austin...0-2...1-2...strikes out swinging

But the Astros fuck themselves. 3-2 Yankees.

Keuchel out, McHugh in
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

Another disappointing outing from Keuchel.

I thought he pitched really well. He should be leading this game, or at worst tied 2-2

With the way his counterpart is going,  he can't giveup 3 runs in his last 1/3 IP.

Shift or no.

B6:

Torres doubles to LF on the first pitch.
Gregorious...0-2...1-2 on a pitch that Stassi misses...Torres to 3B on the passed ball...2-2...singles to RF, Torres scores

And that’s all for Keuchel, McHugh in

Andujar strikes out swinging
Gregorious caught stealing 2-4
Romine walks
Hicks with a flair into LF...Marwin dives for it and misses as it gets passed him...Romine comes all the way around to score from 1B, and Hicks to 2B
Judge grounds out 5-3

5-3 Yankees

Gurriel grounds to 3B, and Andujar boots it. Yuli reacheson the E5
Marwin strikes out swinging
Gattis loops a single to LF, Gurriel to 2B..left fielder kept it front of him and Gurriel only advances one base
Stassi grounds to 3B and Gurriel plows into Andujar and lays him out. Gurriel out on the interference. Gattis to 2B, and Stassi to 1B
Springer on to pinch hit for Marisnick...works the count full...strikes out swinging

At the stretch...5-2 Yankees.

Springer got two pitches to mash. Fouled off one and swung through a spinning slider 3-2.

Observation:

Stassi is good at framing pitches because he funnels the ball to his chest and is fluid. He doesn’t try to “stick” the pitch like a lot of guys and as a result his movements appear natural. He lets the gall come to him and catches the ball close to his body when he can. Brad Ausmus was that way. Stassi’s recieving reminds me of Ausmus.

Strike 2 was surgically placed at 100+
Strike 3 blew him the hell away. 102 mph.

Amazing what happens when you swing the bat. Stassi gets hits off 99-100mph fastballs while the rest of this team seems to watch them right into the catchers mitt.

You can bitch about the shift all you want, and I do not like it sometimes either. The fact is, however, MLB teams play extreme shifts now, and the Astros are committed to it. If they are going to play the shift, that means Keuchel too, whether he likes it or not. He MUST pitch to the shift, not away from it, especially in crucial situations. Pitching Sanchez soft with two strikes low and away was a terrible pitch and invited him to roll the ball through the open right side. Keuchel did NOT do his job.

Good for Blum. The low and away spot was terrible. Soft exacerbated it. He pitched away from the shift and invited what happened.
