I'm starting to get tired of Hosmer.
I remember all the good times me 'n Miller enjoyed
Up and down the M1 in some luminous yo-yo toy
But the future has to change - and to change I've got to destroy
Oh look out Lennon here I come - land ahoy-hoy-hoy

Marwin...full up...walks
Gattis strikes out looking...Mitchell's first K of the season
McCann pops out F6 in foul ground...shift on and SS was the only fielder on the left side
Marisnick grounds to 2B, but Marwin on the move, and the second baseman covering makes a hole and it scoots through to RCF for a single...Marwin to 3B
Springer...quickly 0-2...1-2 as Marisnick swipes 2B with no throw...2-2...3-2...walks to load the bags
Bregman flies out to RF on the first pitch

Astros leave the bases loaded...no score through five.

Bregman is as cold as ice.

If you add Springer's and Bregman's batting averages together, it's still lower than Altuve's.

Gattis just doesn’t look comfortable at the plate. Last night and tonight, he’s watched gut fastballs to get down 0-2.

I'm resigned to idea that Springer will always have these periods where he swings out of his shoes. They're less frequent nowadays, but still around. But he'll soon have an AB where he shoots one oppo and his slump will end.

Harris in for the Astros...

Margot grounds out 6-3
Pirela strikes out swinging
Galvis...takes a strike for ball one...takes a strike for ball two...ball three....takes a pitch right down the middle for ball four...three of the pitches were over the plate
Hosmer takes a strike for ball one...what the fuck is wrong with this ump...ball two in the dirt...2-1 now...taps back to the mound...1-3

Still 0-0

Every team goes through slumps.  That it's against the garbage that is the San Diego Padres' staff is not encouraging.

Yates in for the Pads...

Bregman takes ball one...and the manager and trainer are out...

And Yates is out after throwing one pitch...Makita in...he'll get as long as he wants to warm up...

And Bregman eventually singles to RF
Altuve...down 0-2...1-2...strikes out swinging at a pitch over his head...literally
Correa lines to 1B, Bregman doubled off

No score

Yeah, I'm not sure what they're thinking there.

It's very telling that the Astros are bringing in Devo to close out Giles' mess.

Agree HH, especially with the amount of fly balls that it seems like Giles gives up, you would think you would want that runner at third with less than two.

Left handed hitter due up.  The COD works best against them.

Giles in...

Villanueva doubles to RCF on the first pitch
Asuaje flies out F7
Renfroe chops to 3B, and Villanueva runs right into the tag...Renfroe to 1B on the FC

That's all for Giles...Devenski in...

Spangenberg grounds out 4-3 on the first pitch

To the bottom of the 9th...still no score

Giles probably warrants a dedicated TZ thread.

Or we could wait a month and see how things shake out but that defeats the purpose of being baseball fans.

Erlin in for the Padres

Reddick takes two meatballs...down 0-2...1-2...2-2...strikes out swinging
Marwin...hitting from the starboard side...grounds out 6-3
Gattis takes strike three right down the middle

Extra baseball because the Astros can't swing the fucking bat

The problem there being he is the designated hitter, at least the other guys are playing some defense.

B10:

McCann...who left his blood in the camera well...singles through the shift!
Fisher in to pinch run for McCann
Fisher caught stealing 2-6...didn't get much of a jump...Hinch challenging...replay looks safe, but don't know if there's enough to overturn...overturned!  Winning run in scoring position...credit Fisher with a stolen base
Marisnick...works the count full...lines out to LCF...no chance for Fisher to tag...hit it hard, but right at 'em
Springer takes a fat pitch right down the middle for strike one...1-1...2-1...3-1...hammers one down the LF line...about three inches foul...full count...strikes out swinging at ball four

Erlin out, Maton in...

Bregman...quickly down 0-2...1-2...2-2...works the count full...pops up over the mound...everyone converges, but no body catches it as it lands about 15 feet in front of the plate...Fisher comes around and scores, on what I assume whill be an E3

Astros Win!!

I love how Bregman mentions McCann going over the wall in the post game interview.

Bregman credited with a single and an RBI...why, I have no idea.  But no matter the home town scoring...walkoff win!!

Sorry Julia, Alex is not the hero, Eric Hosmer is the goat or maybe their catcher should have had that popup.

That's Hosmer's ball.  He overran it by about 6 feet.  But it's his ball.

I was at Mi Pueblito eating dinner and following this game on Game Day, walked in the door and turned on the tv to Bregman’s 3-2 count. WOW, what an ending!

True dat, but I would at least like my catcher to get into position to make that catch and have Hosmer call him off.

Ellis didn't want to leave the plate uncovered, as Fisher the winning run was coming around 3B...that's Hosmer's ball.  He just misplayed it.

Yep, It was just hilarious that he realized it way to late and completely overran the  play.  I wonder how much of a kangaroo fine that will be?  I'm assuming most teams have kangaroo courts still.

The way the previous 18 innings had gone, we really needed that. Weird win, but a win nonetheless. Cole's a beast. The bats will wake up. It's all good.

Also, good things continue to happen with Bregman up and Fisher on second. There is some magic in that combination.

Thanks for the PBP. Not going to lie: I’m pretty happy to have spent 15 minutes reading the thread instead of 3 hours watching this one thanks to an out of town wedding.

The MLB app push notification I received during the reception that said the Astros won when Bregman singled home Fisher conjured up images of the WS in my mind. It turns out this was different... very different. Oh well, a win is a win, particularly when it’s not a second straight loss to MFing Friars.

Hosmer:  Just overran it. I put my head down trying to make up some ground. By the time I looked up, it was past me. It's on me.

Ellis: It was in that no-man's land. In hindsight, I should have more aggressively went for it and gave us another option out there. I put Hos in a bad position having to run full speed. Definitely something I should have went for, been out there in the mix. No excuse.

One run in the last 14 innings.

Hinch:
I love the way that he thinks through the game and also executes the game plan. If he doesn't like a pitch, he stepped off a couple of times. He's just a very, very impressive, high-end starting pitcher. That makes us feel good when he gets the ball. We feel completely in control of the game.

Yeah, I'm not sure what they're thinking there.

It's very telling that the Astros are bringing in Devo to close out Giles' mess.

No, no, no. He brought in Devo to pitch to the LH hitter. I suspect that was the plan before the inning started.
Often wrong, but never in doubt.

I'm thinking I need a Cole jersey.  I really liked his pitching.  He seems like a great pick-up.  In Luhnow I trust.
