New radio afflliates thread-San Antonio has 92.5/93.3 FM
« on: March 30, 2018, 07:28:30 pm »
Hello denizens of OWA!

San Antonio's new Astros affiliate appears to be 92.5 and 93.3 FM "The Bull." The games are on the air, but neither the Astros site ( https://www.mlb.com/astros/schedule/radio-affiliates ) nor the Bull's site ( https://thebullcountry.iheart.com ) has anything about it.  (side note: Look at that garbage clickbait site. No wonder iHeartRadio is billions in debt.)

If you've noticed that your affiliate has changed, let us know! OWA gotta take care of its own...

Thanks. Maybe the Astros wont be pre-empted by Rampage Hockey anymore.

...or the worst team in the WNBA, or Mack Brown's Longhorn Circle Jerk Hour...KTKR was a pretty awful affiliate.

I appreciate the heads-up regarding the new affiliate. We might be able to listen
to a day game during the week now...I hope.

I think I heard the game on 97.5 FM in Austin.  Yep just confirmed it on "https://www.mlb.com/astros/schedule/radio-affiliates".  The signal is so weak I can't get it where I live in Round Rock.  For me, 97.5 is a top 40 station out of Waco.  Why isn't this on an AM station in the Austin area?  It used to be on 1300 am.

I'm in Blanco/Burnet counties and I cannot get that station unless the planets are aligned correctly.  The AM station, 910, out of Fredericksburg is my only shot.

MLB At Bat Premium is the best $19.99 I spend each year.  Never have hunt stations or worry about the ionosphere.  Pretty low streaming rate so I don’t kill my data plan, either.

I always wondered why 1300 kept partnering with the Astros because it always seemed like they found anything to broadcast instead of the Astros.  When they were the UT flagship they would prioritize anything UT (including coaches' shows) over the Astros, and even after 1300 lost the UT affiliation it seemed like it was a crapshoot on whether I could listen to the Astros there unless there was literally nothing else happening in sports.  Eventually I just gave up and started defaulting to the MLB app.

I wish The Horn/ARN would pick up the Astros affiliation because they have enough stations, but that's probably a pipe dream since they're already carrying the Horns, Rangers, and Express.

The other day I tried to get the Astros on 1300 in the car, and now I know why I didn't find them.  So I guess it's good that 1300 gave up the affiliation, but it sucks that the signal is poor.  Looks like we're still in the AM wasteland we've been in ever since 1490 changed formats about 20 years ago.

Another thing I love about SiriusXM.  I can get games pretty much anywhere, no matter how far out in the sticks I am.

Eggzactly.  We spend every other weekend on Lake Brownwood and can pretty much get any game we want to hear on Sirius.

+1 from me.

For places with no cell, Sirius is the way to go. I borrowed a friends portable unit on a cross country drive and it worked everywhere.

Did Sirius drop games for a while? I remember when XM came out I subscribed for that reason, but I thought they'd dropped the game feeds in recent years.

170s and 180s.  It varies from day to day which channel any particular team is on.

They have a station that runs down every game and the channel it's on.  I think that is 181.

Most of the time I just flip through the channels until I find the game I want.  There's also a schedule published online each day, I think.

And to be clear, you have to make sure and get the SiriusXM subscription that includes MLB.

I didn't know there was more than one subscription type.

Well, there really is only one...it's the "call them up and threaten to cancel" subscription.

I'm am terrible at that sort of thing.  My wife is great at it.  I guess I just dislike confrontation.

That said, I just looked up my SiriusXM account, and sure enough, there are multiple levels of service.  I have the highest level, even though I'm not sure how I got it.  Which is cool, because it not only includes MLB, but also includes online streaming, something I do every day.  It's sure gotten expensive in the last 10 years though...now paying over $25/month, including royalties and taxes.

Our annual strategy. Which we have adopted with DirectTV. Really pisses me off when new subscribers get better rates than long-time subscribers.

Thanks Das. I had no idea there was such a thing. We have a subscription for the travelling auto and the auto is portable but I was quite certain you weren't referring to that. Could come in handy on vacation in the mountains and such.

Amen!  It pisses me off how that practice became standard within the service industry with very little push back.

FWIW, the Astros were on 92.5/93.3 FM in San Antonio this Sunday. They are normally on 760 AM. My guess is that they will typically be on 760 AM, but will be bumped back to 92.5/93.3 FM when 760 wants to broadcast crap like WNBA, minor league hockey, etc.  This is better than years past, since they weren't (to the best of my knowledge) playing the Astros on other stations until this year.

As for Sirius XM, I have it, but I'm chasing my kids around most nights, so radio is typically more convenient. We should probably complain to the Astros about the sad state of affiliates. Now that they're world champs, maybe they'll listen.

Or maybe the right way to do this is to bug your local sports station? I have no idea, but I'm happy to help Twitter-shame radio stations on anyone's behalf if it will help you get a decent affiliate in your area!

Reid Ryan is great about listening to fans.

I tweeted him a picture of the trash left from people waiting in lines for the rings.  He tweeted back quick.  I expect to see some new rules for Saturday's Springer Bobble-head give away.  That trash around the stadium was horrible.
