Opening Day Starter
« on: March 05, 2018, 03:23:39 pm »
From the "Yeah, We Pretty Much Assumed as Much" department:

During his top-of-the-4th TV stint today, Hinch named Verlander the Opening Day starter and Keuchel the Game 2 starter.

I kind of thought it might be vice versa, just from JV deferring to the incumbent.

Apparently, JV did comment on what an honor it was, considering the team has 3 Opening Day starters from last season in the rotation.

Who would be slated for Game 5?

Just a guess, but I'd say McCullers.

Morton would be my guess. Unless there is a rainout in Arlington.

Verlander should start the opener. Keuchel should be in the 2 and I think Morton is the 5. I’m more curious as to the decision on McCullers or Cole for the 3/4. I mean, you can’t really go wrong either way. I would think however that you may want McCullers’ breaking ball breaking up the velocity between Cole and Morton. So.....

Verlander
Keuchel
Cole
McCullers
Morton

Do you have a link? Not doubting you but all I’ve read has been positive on Kuechel’s reaction.

Yep. Right after his "joke" he said Verlander deserved it.

He should STFU and pitch. I will be interested to see if he has crested the hill and will be returning to mediocrity. I sure as hell hope not, but it would be bad timing for his pursuit of free agency. He was not the lights out same after his return from the DL last year. I hope he has a Cy Young year on his way out of town.

JV replied from somewhere “Thanks, Dallas.”

I was thinking very similar thoughts.  Funny thing to me is that Dallas wanted the Astros to go out and get pitching for the run last year.  Be careful what you ask for, you just might get it.

I'm no body language expert but Dallas doesn't seem to be repressing any anger or animosity. And it's not in his DNA to STFU. His comments have no gravity or significance. Just words to fill space and time.

Morton reported to be the home opener.
According to Julia.
If season started today, #Astros rotation would look like this:  Verlander, Keuchel, McCullers, Cole and Morton. Hinch said he wanted Morton to start the home opener.

I'm down with that.  It's not possible to give Morton too much applause.
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

Well, if it can't be Mike Fiers, I guess Morton will have to do.
