Reddick's at bats
« on: November 01, 2017, 03:07:08 pm »
Holy crap what's wrong with us?  It worked for Springer,  it can work for Josh.

What's wrong with Josh?

My theory: Speedo shrunk from prior celebrations.

He's pressing and lost, definitely need to move him down in the lineup.

He can bunt when McCullers gets a hit.

We've derailed his big one last night.  The pitcher simply won.  Springer's approach was to simplify (whatever they means).  Josh may want to be more patient or less.   Go the other way with any FB.  Yank any FB into the RF corner.   Or he  may simply need a favorable situation and a cooperative pitcher.  Hell it might just be getting a productive out that leads to a run/runs.  Whatever,  he may need to pick one of the above as the situation dictates and execute it.

He's psyched out and lost his groove. He has tried different approaches, nothing is working. Right now it looks like he has no confidence and is pressing at every at bat. It's also a shame Jake got hurt. A.J. has limited options and feels more comfortable having Maybin and Fisher on the bench.

I'm wondering if his a bats are all in the past.  I'm not necessarily advocating it, but it has to have crossed Hinch's mind.

What's crazy is that, after nearly going 0-fer the ALCS, he was hitting in the .360s for the World Series thru Game 3.  A brief glimmer of hope that got swallowed back up.

If you are insane and can't think of anything else to waste your time doing, here is a Fangraphs breakdown of the Josh Reddick 5th Inning at-bat.

Thanks for posting that.  I was aware of the situation (second and third, no outs, Reddick up) and the result, but did not see that at-bat.  I had just assumed Reddick had an awful at bat but it seems like Hill made three perfect pitches.  Hats off to him.

The 3-1 sac fly was very close. The 3-2 curve was perfect.
Often wrong, but never in doubt.

Thanks. I meant to start this thread myself earlier today, but I'm swamped with worky stuff.

Reddick is a very good hitter. His .314 AVG was 5th in the AL this year, and his 12 sac flies led the league. So it's been surprising to see him struggle so much, and in particular, to see him fail to get that run in from 3rd. It feels like he could turn it around at any moment though. May the BBGs see fit to let it be tonight.
