RIP George Young

Probably best known by many as Angus Young's oldest brother but George was part of great 60's band called the Easybeats.

Monday morning I feel bad.
Everyone's talking, few of them know
The rest are pretending, they put on a show
And if there's a message I guess this is it

I'm an aficionado of Australian music so of course I know them. Sphinx is a debonair, world traveller type so of course he knows them.

He knew what to say when he got to the Pearly Gates ... "Hey, St. Peter."

The Easybeats are very highly regarded over here among members of <cough> a certain age. Wasn't George pretty influential in the Australian music business through the years, or am I just taking his influence in the formative years of Angus and Malcolm and their reach to England and beyond?
I'm in love with rock and roll and I'll be out all night.

What a shame. Like the Creation, they had a couple of records that are just perfect. Respect.
Actually, they probably have more. I should dig deeper.
Quote from: NYT
On the Web ... is a recording of what she describes as her latest track, “What We Want,” a hip-hop-inflected rhythm-and-blues tune that asks, "Can you handle me, boy?" and uses some dated slang, calling someone her "boo."

Yeah, George was part of the Vanda & Young combo that recorded under the name Flash and the Pan (Craig seems to know who they are) and were very influential.  They wrote and produced for a lot of 70’s and 80’s artists.  As I understand it they produced the first few albums for my favorite Aussie band, The Angels and helped launch them when they were struggling to get it together.  Alberts was a label that gave unknowns a chance to record and Vanda & Young would often produce for newbs to get them a start.  George, Mal and Angus played in a band called Marcus Hook for a short time along with a cousin (?) as well. But we know Mal and Angus joined AC/DC and the rest is history.  George was also supposed to have caused the on stage punch up between AC/DC and Deep Purple depending on who’s version you believe, they were a wild crew.

Radio Birdman along with the Saints were among the reasons why bands like Steely Dan became uninteresting by 1976.

The Saints never really took off the way that they should have, apparently Chris Bailey called Molly Meldrum a pooftah and a lot of doors were closed to them after that.

Believe it or not, I used to hear "Hey, St. Peter" and "Down Among the Dead Men" on the radio in Lubbock in the late '70s. On the Tech radio station.

I've got a couple of friends who are close to Deep Purple, I'll see if I can pry anything about this out of them. One guy has been with them since the Mark II days, he ought to know something.

There are probably three stories about of what happened, AC/DC’s, Deep Purple’s and the real story.  This was 1975 and was part of the growing AC/DC legend as a wild bunch.  Makes my head spin when I think about how long ago this was, every few years you would hear some reference but never heard the full story.

I would never have imagined that in a million years.

And now George is joined by middle brother Malcolm.

Mal played pretty hard apparently, he was a sad sight in his last few years.  When AC/DC were first getting going he would apparently get that pissed he could hardly play... is slob hands is a great nickname for a guitarist?
