So we've made our reservation at the Beachcomber, booked a guide for tarpon, and are waiting for the single game tickets to go on sale. I'm just trying to figure out how to explain to Kris that I really need to buy some cigars in Tampa.

A word bout the Beachcomber. It's not fancy. It's more "old school" Florida. But the times I've stayed there the rooms were clean and it had a bed and a shower. The biggest pluses are the location...walk out the back to the water, and you have to walk through one of the more popular beach bars in town. And you're close to other nightlife and restaurants. There's a good little burger join near downtown St. Pete that Ty took me to. Ask him and I'm sure he can point you to it on game day. I don't know where the tarpon hang out, but probably not at the bar.
As for buying cigars in Tampa...I can't believe you even have to explain. She should know this. It's common knowledge. Take her to lunch or dinner at the Columbia Restaurant, and she can walk around Ybor with you while you get some smokes. I think the devil crabs at Carmine's are pretty good, and you can get them to go to take back for a late night snack or lunch the next day.
Also, the Al Lopez House, where the Tampa Baseball Museum is or is to be located, is close by. I don't know when it will open to the public, but you might get lucky.
And a few nuggets so you don't sound like a tourist:
1. Tampa Bay is a large body of water. There is not city called "Tampa Bay". You're either in Tampa, or St. Petersburg, or Clearwater, or wherever. If you want to annoy a local, say you're visiting "Tampa Bay".
2. The term for a Tampa native is "Tampan", despite the juvenile response you may receive. Don't let anyone tell you it's "Tampanian". That's just dumb.
3. Three things never, ever, under any circumstance, go on a proper Cuban sandwich: mayonnaise, lettuce, tomatoes. It's ham, roast pork, Genoa salami, Swiss cheese and pickles with yellow mustard. IN THAT ORDER! Learn it. Know it. Live it.
