Man.  This is such a relief. After the horrors of today's trade deadline, I was concerned there wouldn't be anyone to pitch.

The pitching is fine in the regular season, the playoffs is where they will fail.

They should tank the rest of the season and go for a draft pick then.

Seriously, that is a bit of a fatalistic attitude.  There is a lot of baseball still to happen.  I wish some deals could have been made, but I have to believe that they weren't made because they weren't in the best interest of the Houston Astros.

Inglorious start...Morton with a 4-pitch walk to leadoff the game...
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

T1:

Dickerson...3-0...four pitch walk
Duda,3-1...the one strike a ridiculous call 6 inches off the plate...3-2...finally one over the plate...strikes out swinging
Longoria...0-2...1-2...strikes out swinging
Morrison...0-2...strikes out looking

So after the leadoff walk, Morton comes back to punch out the side

No score

I thought you were being optimistic.

Me too. I read here earlier today that we needed to replace our entire pitching staff to have a chance and that Crane was considering hiring the Mooch to stabilize the front office.

That Ramos grounder to Altuve looked like it might have some squirrelly spin on it, but Altuve handled it without any problems.

B2:

Gattis ...quickly 0-2...grounds out 5-3
Beltran doubles off the top of the LCF wall
Bregman doubles off the top of the LF wall, Beltran scores
White...takes to meatballs for an 0-2 count...flies out F7 on a ball in the dirt
Marisnick...full count...walks
Bregman steals 3B
Fisher walks, Marisnick to 2B
Altuve singles to RF, Bregman scores, Marisnick scores, Fisher to 3B, and Altuve moves to 2B on the throw to 3B
Gurriel grounds out 6-3 on the first pitch

But the Astros put up a crooked number...lead 3-0

He also said he's never vetoed a deal.

Four pitch walk to the 9 hitter, fall behind 3-0 to the leadoff man who hits one out of the yard...3-2 now

B3:

McCann singles up the middle
Gattis...2-0...pops out F3 in foul ground
Beltran flies out F8 on the first pitch
Bregman singles to CF, McCann to 2B
White...full count...singles to LF...McCann running on the pitch, rumbles around to barely beat a noodle thrown home...Bregman to 3B, White to 2B on the throw
Marisnick homers to LF on the first pitch...Bregman scores, White scores
Fisher homers to RF
Altuve flies out F7

But the Astros vaunt a little...lead 8-2

That's definitely one of my favorite home runs.
Mine too. My second favorite Ausmus homer was a game winner at Shea in '08 on Jewish Heritage Day.

Whitley in for the Rays

Gurriel doubles on a line drive to CF...Smith dove, and caught it, but popped out of his glove when he hit the ground
McCann...0-2...flies out F8, Gurriel tags and moves to 3B
Gattis...the only Astros without a knock tonight...infield in...double down the LF line...Gurriel scores
Beltran hits a seed right by the second baseman for a single to RF...Gattis to 3B
Bregman with a sac fly to RF, Gattis scores
White grounds out 5-3

Astros up 10-2

So Angelos vetoed our Britton deal? Fuck him.

If you put what Crane and Luhnow said, yeah.  Plus, it fits with what I heard the radio guys saying.  Plus, Britton didn't move.

He probably would have stayed on the roster in favor of a healthy Feliz, so you are probably right.  But there has to a better option in the minors.
