That was one crazy hop.
There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.

Peacock can't find the zone...back to back 4-pitch walks loads the bases with one out...
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

Third straight walk plates a run...bases still loaded, one out.  Peacock is a train wreck early.

T1:

Maybin cues one off the end of the bat, takes a funky hop on Marwin at 1B, who knocks it down, but can't get Maybin...no matter as Peacock didn't get to the bag
Calhoun flies out F9 at the wall on the first pitch
Maybin steals 2B without a throw
Pujols...3-0...four pitch walk
Maybin steals 3B standing up
Escobar...3-0...another four pitch walk...that's eight straight balls, none even close
Valbuena walks, Maybin scores, Pujols to 3B, Escobar to 2B
Simmons grounds sharply to 3B...instead of an inning ending double play, Bregman goes home...McCann drops the ball, but recovers to get Pujols 5-2
Maldonado flies out to shallow RF

1-0 Angels

B2:

Beltran flies out F9
McCann singles to RF
Marwin singles to LF, McCann to 2B
Bregman...with a hot dog wrapper in his pocket...works the count full...walks, McCann to 3B, Marwin to 2B
Aoki chops to 1B, Valbuena fields it, tags 1B to get Aoki, throws home, but off line...McCann is out by five steps, but tap dances around to miss the tag, over runs the plate, dives back and just beats the tag...Marwin ends up at 3B and Bregman at 2B
Marisnick singles to the hole at SS, Marwin scores, but Bregman rounds the bag at 3B and Simmons throws behind him...Bregman gets in a rundown, but it out 6-5-2

But the Astros plate two runs...Angels lead 3-2

Peacock is shit tonight.

Hand-wringing about 4 starters is quite unusual for a first place team with the highest win % in the MLB.

So, he's not shit tonight ?

Your reaction is a tab bit knee jerk. I said that (with Keuchel on the DL) we have four question marks in the rotation right now, which is unusual for a team with a good record. Thus, I'm agreeing that Peacock is shaky so far tonight. Let's hope he reverts back to his first two start form.

So you thought Pettit just stood there and watched the play in front of him without saying a word?  I'm not sure why you'd think that, but yes, Pettit was doing his job and telling Bregman to stop.

B3:

Reddick...hitting .500 leading off an inning...full count...doubles to LF
Altuve flailing wildly at pitches 9 feet out of the zone...quickly 0-2...flails wildly at a pitch 12-feet outside for a three pitch punchout
Correa grounds out 6-3, Reddick to 3B
Beltran flies out F9

Leadoff double wasted because Altuve sucks!!!

4-2 Angels

The Astros are tops in the MLB on the vauntability index, so I expect some high scale ratio leveraging of the vaunteriffic variety soon. They just need to keep the Angels from scoring more than they do over the course of 9 innings.

Hoyt takes the pill...

Maybin...0-2...chops one over the mound for an infield single
Maybin steals 2B, moves to 3B as McCann bounces the throw into CF...stolen base, TE2
Calhoun...infield in...hammers a 2-strike pitch into RF...Maybin scores
Pujols grounds into 5-4-3 double play
Escobar strikes out swinging

5-2 Angels

Valbuena flies out F8 as Marisnick makes the catch right up against the wall in deep LCF
Simmons double to LCF on the next pitch...almost the same spot, but Marisnick was shaded way over towards RF
Maldonado hit by pitch
Young bounces back to the mound...1-3...Simmons to 3B, Maldonado to 2B
Espinosa grounds out 4-3

First zero thrown up tonight...5-2 Angels

Time to call Ynez.

I've been reflecting on this. With a tiny bit of grace you can morph the pervy old dude with a camera into the happily married fellow on vacation.

Hey, honey, what a great place, huh?! How 'bout you and Ynez jump over there and I'll get a shot of you both!

That's great, honey! Come here and have a look! No, Ynez, you stay right there, let me get one of you, the background is so interesting what with all the 40 years of history and whatnot.

Hmm.. to those of you that have donned the armor... it seems that was a great throw that had McCann handled would have had a great shot on the non sliding Maybin?

Eh...maybe.  The throw was to the outside line, so it would have taken a perfect pick and swipe tag.  Even then would have been tough.

I'm fresh out of beer, my choices are red wine, Bushmills, or Cachaca. I have limes. Caipirnha time.

Tonight's one of those nights where it really doesn't matter.
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

I don't know how I missed this one. Spot on!

Martes has good stuff and he's young as hell. Strike 3 on his first K was a thing of beauty. Who knows how he pans out but I imagine today was an absolute mind fuck for the kid. If he learned one thing from tonight's game I hope it's:

“Traveling through hyperspace ain't like dusting crops, farm boy.”

I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing AstroTurf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, torture of Bud Selig.

This is not a pleasant experience so far.
