It's been a great run. But just remember that five of our losses come against the team that we'll most likely face in the AL Championship.

I'm trying to remember: wasn't the Astros' closing run in 2004 something like 40-15?

It's as if Mr. Happy has been turned into a secret operative under the control of Mrs. Happy, hellbent on destabilizing the astros. If we can find proof of a direct server connection to FeathersandBatsandOvertlyRacist.com, we'll know he has been compromised.

No, you remember that, Debbie Downer. We should have swept the series in Cleveland.

The part of Cleveland's team that concerns me is their pitching, esp their bullpen.  I know the Astros weren't at full strength but they only hit .220 against Indians pitching.
Always ready to go to a game.

I'm going to use some profanity to avoid using descriptive words: this team has been good as fuck but hasn't done shit. Tired of playing in the fucking play in game. Win more and earn a series. I barely remember what it feels like to win one of those so ask me if it ever happens after the leaves changes colors, until then we have to sweat this shit out in the 100% humidity of America's sauna, Houston, TX.

Random note I heard last night. Apparently Crane wasn't  happy with the lack of trades like year, and expect the Luhnow to push hard for deals this trade deadline, Archer is the most likely.

I hope they check in on Cueto. He may cost less in terms of prospects, and we've seen first hand his ability to pitch in big games.

Luhnow's track record would suggest that he won't make the move that is widely speculated such as Quintana, Archer, or Cole. I'd be pretty fired up to land any one of these guys.

Trades that make sense, absolutely.  Go get a front-line starting pitcher and a left-handed reliever.

Trades because the owner likes trades are ridiculous.

Want Cole and Watson.

Pittsburgh is only 4 games out right now and McCutchen is heating up.  They may be buyers at the deadline.

I'm sure Crane is knowledgeable and smart at running a logistics business or whatever the fuck he does, but considering every baseball-related comment I've ever heard or read by him I'm pretty sure he doesn't know shit about running a baseball team. His understanding appears to be around the level of the average spelling-challenged Chronicle commenter. I hope Luhnow has the wits and the balls to never base any of his moves on Crane's wishes.

By that standard we can't count on Archer being available either - the Rays are only two back of the wild card.

Based on his contract alone if they thought they could be a playoff team this year or any of the next three years I wouldn't expect them to deal him.

IIRC Luhnow indicated that if he'd known about some of the injury issues (Kuechel in particular) prior to the deadline he'd have made a deal or two more.

Various comments he has made, relating to team needs, assessing the team's strengths/weaknesses, direction of the team and so forth, from time to time since he bought the team 5+ years ago. I'm surprised that you're surprised by this.

Did we ever hear the motivation/explanation for dealing Feldman?  Unless it was purely a salary dump, it didn't make sense at the time and made even less sense after the injuries.

Felt better about younger options and got a prospect.  Was looking how Lupe Chavez was doing, he retired from baseball at 19.  What the heck?

I can't think of any Crane comments offhand other than the general process comments in the first couple of years that it would be a rough couple of seasons or so but they are investing in the long term success of the franchise (cheap now, maximize draft picks, rebuild the farm system, pay down debt, will spend more later).  It's seemed to me that Crane has been pretty hands off as an owner.  I always thought that Crane was letting Luhnow drive the ship as he saw fit and not interfering much.  Maybe that's me not paying attention or him not being as much of a visible character as Drayton was,  or some combination of the two.

Oh he's a mute hermit compared to Drayton, for sure. It's not very often that he comments about baseball matters - but when he has, it's almost always made me think "what a dumbass". Maybe it's just me.

Crane and company did a bunch of dick stepping in the early days, then they fired Postolos and hired Reid Ryan.   Since then things have changed a lot.

Makes sense.  Postolos was horrible for two Houston franchises.
