The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

Altuve with a situational triple.  He should do that every time there's a runner on first.

More baserunning dickstepping as Correa is picked off of 2B with one out.

Springer rolls a single to LCF
Altuve doubles over the CFers head, Springer comes around to score...close at the plate as Springer had to hold to see if it would be caught...nice slide...Altuve to 3B on the throw
Correa with an infield single, off the first baseman's glove, second baseman gets it, but Correa beats Miley to the bag, Altuve scores
Gattis lines out to third base on the first pitch
Marwin singles to RF, Correa to 2B
Correa picked off of 2B
McCann walks, Marwin to 2B
Gurriel grounds into FC, McCann out 5-4

2-0 Astros

Astros lead MLB in infield hits.  Didn't know that.

Preston Wilson doesn't seem too bad in the booth.

We're going to Memphis next week, then to northern Arkansas to fish.  I'm tying flies, watching the game, and sitting at my computer with a Facebook feed and Orangewhoopass.  The second item on my Facebook feed is advertising DampRid. (1) How does DampRid have FaceBook posts? (2)  Why are DampRid ads showing up in my Facebook feed?  (3)  Does everyone who sees a DampRid post immediately think of Milo?

Just as a reminder, for those watching on MLB.TV, a lot of devices allow you to change the audio feed so you can watch the game while listening to the locals rather than the boneheads usually on national broadcasts.

I'm currently using a roku stick,  and it works on it.

For many years my main axe was a late 70s brown burst 335. It was made in the USA but exactly where I never thought to wonder. It was and is a superior instrument. Every time I remove it from its case (which is about as often as I'm at Chili's) it is perfectly in tune and impeccably intonated. It sounds great unamplified.

What's the old joke about how you tell a real Gibson from a fake...if it stays in tune, it's fake.

If your axe was made in the late 70s, it was probably made in Nashville.  They moved the hollow bodies to Memphis in the late 80s, I think.

One of the best instrument ever made. I bet it's worth a lot more than you paid for it.

I paid $900 for it. And the lunatic that sold it to me threw in a perfectly good Japanese strat. I'm not really a strat guy at all but it's sort of fun to fiddle with when you're sitting on the couch not doing much of anything else. The later, Korean ones were pretty crap and the Mexican ones are completely unplayable. But the Japanese one I have is fine.

The only guitar I ever had problems with is a 66 cherry SG. It has a Bigsby tremolo that I obviously removed but it has a persistent intonation issue. I had it refretted, which helped, but it didn't solve anything. I paid $300 for that guitar, by the way.

About five years ago I got curious and started looking into the value of my various instruments. Somewhat to my surprise it seems that the single most valuable instrument I have is a late 70s Precision bass. It too is a great, great instrument that's effectively irreplaceable because to me the new Fender basses are beyond terrible. I paid $500 for it. Anyway, I had no idea that it would have appreciated like it apparently has.

I'm not a guitar collector.  I've got a cheap Ibanez (which actually plays pretty well when you can get it in tune), a 90s era American Strat and a Paul Reed Smith Custom 24, which my wife bought me for my 40th birthday (10 years ago now).  The Strat is probably worth a little more than I paid for it, but that's about it.

I have a friend who is a big collector of Gibsons.  He has probably 20 different Les Pauls and a number of hollow/semi-hollow bodies, including a Birdland.  I can't imagine that he plays all of them, but they sure look good handing on the way of his man cave.

At any rate, I think for my 50th birthday I think I'm gonna get a new grill.  I've had my eye on one of those pellet grills that you can control from your phone.

I have 6 smokers in my backyard. I still use them all occasionally but the pellet smoker gets 90% of the usage now. It's great!! I have the RecTec 680, no phone control (I have that on a Weber Smokey Mountain with a add on box/fan) but it's not needed. It's the most set it and forget it device I've ever owned. Couldn't be happier. In fact it's slaving away on a couple racks of ribs as we speak.

I liked it on the WSM when I was at work. I could see what was going on with my pit and make adjustments if needed. With a pellet smoker it's hardly needed. They just plug along doing their job without a fuss. I miss creating a good long lasting fire and evening out the temp. but that's why the WSM's stay in the backyard.

Get another guitar.

But I'm a better chef than I am guitar picker.  Plus the wife doesn't understand why one needs more than one guitar.  She's the same way with tools.  She thinks, you have a hammer and a screwdriver, what else could you possibly need.  Now go build me a cathedral.

One might argue that Keuchel might have provided a slightly more effective lefty on lefty matchup, especially since he only threw 86 pitches. Hinch could have pulled him after Davis if the goal was to keep his pitch count down during his return from the DL.

Stay away from the brinkman if you want a bullet style smoker. The Weber Smokey Mountains are a great buy. Tons of info online on usage. Some great WSM forums out there too. They consistently win BBQ contests even with all the pellet smokers being used.

I've got an early 70s strat. It's  the only Fender I've played on for 25 years, it's my axe. I love the tone of a SG or Les Paul but my favorite electric Gibson is the 70s era ES335.

Before the 335 I played a nondescript 80s Les Paul. It was a great guitar for what it was. I played it through a temperamental Fender Deluxe Reverb. When I could get that thing to obey me I had a tone that people still talk to me about. And occasionally I can hear what they're saying over the ringing in my ears.

I played the SG for a while but finally got tired of fighting with it. Also, people always wanted to talk about the guitar and I sort of got tired of that, too. Plus, it was a little too thin for the Deluxe.

I usually paired the 335 with a 100 watt Marshall half stack, just what you need to play to seventy five people in a basement somewhere, let me tell you. But I really like the heft of that guitar. The size, I mean, because it's nowhere near as heavy as a Les Paul.

The nicest thing about the egg is how many things it does well.  Tonight I grilled redfish in about 12 minutes at 450.  I could also do briskets over 8 hours at 225.  Either way it works just fine.

Sipp in...not sure why Keuchel is out

Davis triples off the RCF wall on a meatball right down the center

That's all for Sipp...Hoyt in

Mancini pops out F6, Davis still at 3B
Davis scores on a wild pitch
Schoop...quickly 0-2...strikes out looking
Hardy singles up the middle on a 1-2 fastball right down the middle...ugh
Joseph...quickly 0-2...strikes out swinging

4-2 Astros at the stretch

I've got the egg, a $99 barrel pit from Ace Hardware, and 4 homemade contraptions.  It just pretty much depends on my mood and where I am (and how interested am I in moving one of them to another place) and what I'm cooking.

One of my concerns with the pellet grills is they may not get hot enough.  Not much I'd grill at 450...I need at least 550-600.  The Memphis grills get that hot.  That's what I'm looking at.

My favorite egg usage is smoking my ribeye on the pellet grill for an hour or so until it's around 150 and meanwhile crank the egg up to one billionty degrees for a fast finish. I call it Texas sous vide.

I went to barbecue camp at A&M a couple of years ago.  The director, Jeff Savell, had a cinderblock pit in his back yard, and they cooked a whole pig on it.  You can do that sort of thing when you're the head of meat sciences department.

One of my concerns with the pellet grills is they may not get hot enough.  Not much I'd grill at 450...I need at least 550-600.  The Memphis grills get that hot.  That's what I'm looking at.
.

The Memphis grills are incredible. Can't go wrong there. You just need to convince your wife that 50 is a big deal. You need two new grills.

One trick I use is putting a cast iron skillet on whatever grill I'm searing with. Surface temps are bonkers.. I've read 900 degrees on the Egg. 5 seconds a side and you're all set.

Any of you necks ever cook a pig in a hole? I'd like to dig a pibil pit, if only to annoy my neighbors.

Kiwis will cook in holes in the ground, call it a hangi  (pronounced hungi)

I can buy a whole suckling here for $100. They're frozen and come from Spain if I'm not mistaken. Dig a hole, line it with banana leaves which I have in no short supply, hot coals, pig, leaves, more coals, cover it up, leave it alone for eight hours or so. What am I missing?

My brother and I and some select yahoos are doing that up here next weekend if it doesn't rain.  Have a pretty little 50lb wild pig in the freezer begging to be eaten.

Let us know how it goes.

I never have, only on a grate over hot coals.  But a pit would be something to try.

I participated in a similar method of pig cooking, but it was inside of what was termed a "Cajun microwave" that was basically about a 4x5 reinforced metal box like an oven on wheels.

B7:

Altuve singles up the middle, his third hit of the day
Altuve steals 2B
Correa singles up the middle...Altuve stops at 3B, but the ball bobbled in CF, Altuve scores on the E8
Gattis singles to LF, Correa to 3B, but for some reason the throw goes to 3B and Gattis moves to 2B

That's all for Wilson, Bleier in

Marwin grounds out 6-3, everybody holds
McCann grounds into FC, Correa out at the plate 4-2, Gattis to 3B
Gurriel grounds out 4-3

2B and 3B nobody out...and nothin'

5-2 Astros

I hadn't tuned in at that point. But when Preston Wilson said "Infielders aren't used to having their back to the infield." I was done.

Uh, almost any popup to shallow center both the SS and the 2nd baseman are running with their backs to the infield. What are you talking about, you goon?

I can buy a whole suckling here for $100. They're frozen and come from Spain if I'm not mistaken. Dig a hole, line it with banana leaves which I have in no short supply, hot coals, pig, leaves, more coals, cover it up, leave it alone for eight hours or so. What am I missing?
We did it a couple of years ago, and followed instructions very similar to this:  http://www.artofmanliness.com/2016/06/28/how-to-cook-a-pig-in-the-ground-hawaiian-style/

We may just end up brining it overnight, using an above ground box pit, and sopping it regularly.  Depends on the amount of work I feel like doing (and if anybody shows up early to help).  It's a metric fuckton of prep work.
You may ask yourself, "How do I work this?"

I participated in a similar method of pig cooking, but it was inside of what was termed a "Cajun microwave" that was basically about a 4x5 reinforced metal box like an oven on wheels.
Those are cool.  Wouldn't buy one, but it was fun to play with it a couple of times.
You may ask yourself, "How do I work this?"

And John Jaso, the dreadlocked one, wins it for the Pirates with a walk off single in the 10th.  Poor Pill takes the loss in his debut.

That's a tough one to swallow.
