Pitch Type By Count
« on: May 11, 2017, 01:32:26 pm »
If you are looking for a good time waster today.  Baseball Savant has a new cool feature that allows you look at a pitcher's tenancies based on count.  Here is LMJ's chart.

And here is Keuchel's

I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing AstroTurf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, torture of Bud Selig.

Here is LMJ's chart.

Clear evidence that LMJ needs to improve his change up.

Remember that the hitters have this information too.

Yep, and the pitchers have the charts on the hitters too.  It is amazing the amount of info that is out there now, it just makes me more impressed by what they do.

The players have access to far more data than we do.

and you know what? All the data in the world does not make a bit of difference whenthe pitch is on the way.
Often wrong, but never in doubt.

Of course not.  But before?
You may ask yourself, "How do I work this?"

Like the old boxing saying..."everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face."
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.
