Brownie sounds like a new man, I think the Ashby pairing really took it's toll and wore him down. He sounds refreshed.

Correa's recognition on that 2-1 slider down and out of the zone was woeful. Thankfully the strangers fucked it up on the next pitch.

Carlos Gomez batting 3rd for the Rangers, Odor batting cleanup and hitting 190.

Rule book double, after a missed double play, ties the game.  Next batter singles, but Aoki guns down Andrus at the plate to end the inning.

This for sure I sn't drinkware although it does hold an immense amount of beer... i think it adorned a shelf in Liberace's Texas home in a former life... just a guess.

Great job by Correa, although somewhat lucky that Andrus was playing in. Probably a hit even with normal positioning.

Correa hitting .300 over his last 10 games. And that includes game two vs the A's. Might be turning the corner.

I don't agree with that. Sure, he was a train-wreck for the Astros; but not for lack of effort, and he wasn't a jerk to the fans or to his teammates.

But he's a Ranger

Someone has probably said this already, but I wonder how much longer before he starts losing a lot of ABs to Gattis.

Hopefully soon...seems to have lost bat speed also.

Between the throw behind and the figurative punch in the mouth the Astros delivered in the 7th, there's a lot to be rowdy about tonight.

Dude. It's May 1st. Nobody should be making All-Star decisions on May 1st, despite what MLB marketing thinks.

It wouldn't be so bad if Devo's appearances didn't typically go several innings. You have time to work in damn near a full album.

Brownie was trying to play this game with Elvis earlier tonight. Apparently Blum isn't a huge fan of the King.

Got a four run lead in the 9th, and he's dicking around with Odor on 1B instead of concentrating on the hitter.

My guess is he listens to sports talk and whatever god forsaken garbage his daughters want to hear.

Of course he went to Berkeley so maybe he loves Moby Grape.

I believe Blummer is in record as saying his "go-to" band is Stone Temple Pilots.

Napoli, on the McCullers pitch behind him that led to the benches clearing:

"Obviously, I didn't like it," Napoli said. "I've been in the game a long time. I understand how things work. Two of their guys get hit, but all he has to do is put it in my hip and I run down to first base. No one likes 95 [mph] behind their back."

For those who have more knowledge of such things, why is it better to be hit by a pitch than have a pitch not hit you, especially one that is not flying by your head?

I'm sorry to hear that. I was hoping Brownie was scheduled to work a few games this year.

me too.

The pitch behind you is generally considered more dangerous because your instinct is always to jump back; so by throwing behind, you can get hit without seeing it coming.

It already is

I am pretty sure it started in Game 2 during the extra innings.  It'll probably be here for a long wile.

I'm ambivalent when it comes to the wooo.

I actively like it. I know nothing of Ric Flair, which maybe helps, but primarily it's an Astros crowd doing something besides the wave or napping.

Exactly.  It's one thing to drill a guy in the butt to send a message.  Throwing behind a guy up is dangerous.  I understand Napoli's point, and frankly he had every right to make that a bigger deal than he did.  He was remarkably restrained.

Napoli I thought carried himself well. He had every right to react, and afterwards he did say that he should have had himself in the frame of mind to get plunked considering the circumstances.

Napoli, yes.  Banister is still the biggest prick in the history of the time-space continuum.

Just to add to this, throwing behind a hitter leaves no doubt and is obviously intentional, whereas getting drilled in the ribs can still be interpreted as an inside 2-seam fastball that "got away." Also, everyone looked pretty calm initially and Shoo escalated it with his actions. Bannister is a hot head douchebag. Blum didn't hold back in his criticism of Bannister running out with his chest puffed out.

What was the catcher's name? Sandy Vagina or something like that.

Is there video available?  I remember listening on the radio to this.

Only thing good I remember about Michael Barrett was the time he punched A.J. Pierzynski in the face.  Pierzynski is the biggest prick in the history of the universe who is not currently a Texas Ranger.

This is not over. And I agree with the comments about Napoli. He knows how the game is played. Bannister knows too but he takes every opportunity to help stir the pot. I suppose that's his idea of leadership.

My all time favorite dream is for the Astros and Rangers to get into it, and have Banister take a swing at Hinch, miss and coldcock Odor, while Hinch counters with a right cross that knocks both of Banister's teeth out.

Yeah, I thought Napoli showed laudable restraint. It looked like he just said "what was that, man?" without even mixing a fuck in.

I did a little legwork and apparently his walk-up music as an Astro included P.O.D. and Chevelle.

So it's worse than we'd imagined.

Tom Grieve needs to spend less time calling the Rangers players by their first name and more time being an actual broadcaster. That guy is is about as stupidly annoying as Hawk Harrelson.
