RIP Bill Paxton
« on: February 26, 2017, 11:03:12 am »
Someone tweeted out that the native Texan was the only actor killed by a Terminator, an Alien and a Predator.

Nice genre turns in pics like Edge of Tomorrow and Weird Science as well.

Gone way too soon. All the stuff he was in, some being huge blockbusters, but my favorite was probably A Simple Plan.
Everyone's talking, few of them know
The rest are pretending, they put on a show
And if there's a message I guess this is it
Truth isn't easy, the easy part's shit

Underrated in Apollo 13, IMO.

Hanks, Bacon, and Paxton. Kudos to that casting director.
I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing AstroTurf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, torture of Bud Selig.

Ed Harris is another actor who is very good to great in just about everything he does.

I was just restricting it to the capsule, but you can add Gary Sinise to that.

You know, I forgot he was in that.  Casting director should've won an Oscar, equivalent.

I disagreed with it at the time, but with hindsight, Braveheart over Apollo 13 seems even more egregious.

Opie makes good movies. I find myself working this week in the southern Oklahoma town (Duncan) that claims to have been a boyhood home of Howard,

Certainly on the historical accuracy front (e.g. there was a bridge involved in the Battle of Stirling Bridge).

Made me go look it up... It did win the SAG award for "Outstanding Performance by a Cast".

However, it placed second at something called the Awards Circuit Community Awards for "Best Cast Ensemble", and was only a finalist at the Casting Society of America awards for "Best Casting for Feature Film, Drama". In both cases, "The Usual Suspects" won.

"The Usual Suspects" is pretty good competition.

No doubt, not like it's Forrest Gump v Pulp Fiction

Certainly on the historical accuracy front (e.g. there was a bridge involved in the Battle of Stirling Bridge).

There were probably more, but after Apollo 13 was released, someone claimed there were only two minor inaccuracies:

1)  It was Lovell's previous space flight that forced the family to cancel a vacation;
2)  Lovell's Corvette was blue, not red.

Or Pullman.

Just think how confusing it will be when one of the Chrises dies.

Re-watched this just the other day, and was shocked at that error.

Pratt already did.

ETA: Sorry about spoilers for a movie out for several months.

Didn't have a chance to read the article, but there's a ton of great interviews and such about him bossing around the other actors in character.  He was easily in my top5 favorite people in that.

Now I wonder why he never made a career out of it like R.Lee?
