On a play that occurred on Friday night in Seattle, the official scorer’s decision has been overturned and a hit has been given to Altuve, that's 201.

Out is the call. Astros win!

Nice job by Gregerson, who had to get NINE fucking outs that inning.

I would hate for that to have been Giles getting squeezed. He doesn't have Gregerson's composure.

Gregerson certainly seemed to be the right guy to pitch around the multiple bad calls and 2-out error.

Mark and I were listening to the As radio guys in the 9th. they agreed with HH. one of them said "Looks like the (home plate umpire's name) has decided Vogt has to put the ball in play if there will be a 3rd out." he also called Pinder's checked swing strike three.
Often wrong, but never in doubt.

I'm not normally one to bitch about calls like that and think the pitcher has to sometimes pitch around it.  But geez, Gregerson made pitch after pitch after pitch and simply got screwed.  If that whole inning would have gone to hell, Gregerson would have been the last guy on the field to blame.  He did his job and then some, and appeared way calmer than I was in my living room losing my shit.  Glad it all ended well.

the PBP guy on the (I think) 0-2 pitch to Vogt said "That was right down the middle" when it was called a ball.

If it was the 0-2 pitch, it wasn't right down the middle, but it was a nasty-ass pitch that clearly shaved off a good deal of the stirke zone.  Gregerson was completely justified in heading toward the dugout, assuming the game was over.  I agree w/ HH: bitching about ball/strike calls is usually lame and counterproductive, but yesterday's 9th inning display of poor umpiring was almost unique.  It was worse than Angel Hernandez; it brought back memories of Charlie Williams.

On a positive note:  When he's on, I think Gregerson might have more movement on his pitches than any non-knuckleballer out there.

Agreed.  When Gregerson is on, it's almost like he can yell "here it comes, see if you can hit it", and they usually won't.

when the should-have-been-game-ending grounder was hit to Altuve I had this sinking feeling in my stomach that he was going to boot it. Not because I don't trust him but it was the anxiety based on what else was happening and that mausoleum they were playing in where weird shit happens. Also because it was hit straight to him and when I played ball I always found grounders hit right to me more difficult than most.
